Cash Mob at Family-Owned Stow Business Saturday Afternoon

Cash mobs are sweeping the nation ... and now they are hitting Stow. Find out details about the cash mob at Stow Sports here.

Don't worry ... it's a good kind of mob.

Stow resident Bob Pontius has organized — where residents mob a locally owned business and purchase up to $20 in merchandise all at the same time.

The purpose? To boost and support the local economy

And Pontius selected as the first cash mob location at 2 p.m. Saturday. (Pontius said the owners don't know about the event yet.)

The business just celebrated its 25th year anniversary on March 21 and sells athletic apparel, equipment, shoes, custom jackets and accessories, according to the Stow Sports website.

The store was founded "on the belief a quality, service-centered retail sporting goods store would be supported by the local community. Through several years of commitment, the retail operation had become a foothold and allowed us to search for future growth," said David Underwood, CEO/president, on the store's website.

"It's a really cool way to support a local business and a great way to be involved in the community," Pontius said. "Stow Sports employs local kids, gives back to teams ... if we can get 100 people to spend $20 tomorrow ... it would be so crazy."

The new craze was started by a local Cleveland guy, Andrew Samtoy

Will you go Saturday? Stow Patch will be there ... so look for coverage of the mob. While you're there, be sure to tweet pictures to @StowPatch and use the hashtag #cashmob or tag us in your pictures on Facebook!

Don't worry if you can't make Saturday's mob — Pontious said this won't be the only one.

"If we did it a few times a year ... or once a month to make the mom and pop shops feel good, how cool is that?" he said.
