Stow Job Club Leader Traveling to D.C. (Again) to Help Put Americans Back to Work

founder Diana Miller is taking her experience of helping put Americans back to work to Washington D.C. — again. 

Miller has visited D.C. a few times to share her experience with starting the local job club and helping people find work. 

"I will be talking about how I took an informal job club and turned it into a formal non-profit," she said about her invitation to Job Clubs and Career Ministries: On the Front Lines of Getting Americans Back to Work.

Participants will include job club and ministry leaders, faith and community leaders, workforce development officials, nonprofit leaders, and others from across the country who are assisting job seekers and workers. The participants will discuss job club models and partnerships and there will be speakers from the White House and Department of Labor. 

Miller started the job club in Stow as an informal club in June 2009 when she founded The Career Navigation Group LLC in Munroe Falls, a full-service outplacement company that provides private career management consulting and other services.

“I started attending job clubs in Northeast Ohio to see what they were all about. I kept hearing sad stories of people out of work for a year or longer. Then I realized there wasn’t a job club in the Stow-Munroe Falls area,” .

Since then, the club has grown and moved from the  to the . 

A panel of people from the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships wants to tap into Miller's expertise. 

"I was invited by Ben Seigel, Deputy Director of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Center for Faith-based & Neighborhood Partnerships, who is organizing the event for the White House," said Miller. 

She and Seigel already last year, when Miller served as a contributor in a roundtable discussion hosted by the center in Washington. The Stow club was just one of 10 clubs in the nation invited to participate.

Miller will be on one of the panels Sept. 20 at the White House South Court Auditorium.
