SENIOR JACOB EARLE BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD AT NOC CHAMPIONSHIPS AT CSU

The Stow-Monroe Falls Boys Swim and Dive team competed in the Northeast Ohio Conference Championships at Robert F. Busbey Natatorium at Cleveland State University on Saturday, Jan 5th.  Team members competed in prelims in the morning and finals in the evening looking to place high in the River Division.  Individual  and relay places are based on the championship finals(places 1-10) and consolation finals(places 11-20) with all 17 of the NOC teams represented.  The team standings are based on division placement.  The boy’s team finished third in the River Division behind North Royalton and rival Cuyahoga Falls.  Stow was followed by Brunswick, Medina and Twinsburg.  Head Coach Dan Reese said, “This was an exciting meet to be at.  The NOC championship meet is one of the premier meets in the state of Ohio and our team showed that we belong with the big boys.”

Senior Jacob Earle had an amazing day of swimming.  He had a championship performance in the 100 Breast out touching Solon by 3 tenths of a second to capture 1st place in the NOC and set a new school record with a time of 1:00.12  Jacob also took 5th place in the 100IM with a 2:05.59.  Jacob led the team in scoring with his two top ten finishes. Coach Reese said, “Jacob really had a great meet.   His swim energized our entire swim team and proved to everyone that putting in the hard work does pay off.  To break a school record this early in the season is exciting and I cant wait to see we were are by the end of the season.” 

Also finishing in the top ten championship finals in his events was junior Cody Vantrease.  Vantrease has been battling a back injury all season, but was able to earn a 4th place finish in the 200 Free 1:49.09 and a 10th place finish in the 100 Free 49.55.  Vantrease commented, “I met my personal goals for this meet, but it was amazing to watch so many on our team do so well.” 

Senior Cameron Potter finished 3rd in the consolation finals 13th overall for the 50 Free with a time of 23.79 and 7th place, 17th overall in the 100 Free with a 52.48.  Coach Reese said, “It was great to see Cameron final in both events in his senior year.  He is putting the work in and its paying off.” 

Senior Will Sheppard earned the team some much needed points finishing 15th in the diving event with a 229.40.

Two top ten finishes for our relays really helped to boost Stow in the team rankings.  The 200 Free Relay team of Potter, junior Curtis Henry, Earle and Vantrease finished 4th with at time of 1:34.44.

The 200 Medley Relay team of sophomore Shane Riddle, Earle, Vantrease and Potter finished 6th place with a time of 1:46.90.

Rounding out the scoring and finishing in 12th place with a time of 2:29.40 for the Bulldogs was the 400 Medley Relay team of Henry, senior Ethan Schur, freshman Travis Delker and sophomore Schuyler Morris.
