City Plans 'Summer Sunset Blast' with Fireworks Labor Day Weekend

This weekend Stow residents can look forward to a cap on summer with fireworks, live music, movies and more as part of the annual Summer Sunset Blast to be held at Silver Springs Park on Friday and Saturday.

The city issued the following release with details on the event:

The City of Stow is actively planning the 7th annual Stow Summer Sunset Blast, a FREE community event that will be held Labor Day Weekend at Silver Springs Park. The event is scheduled from 5:00pm to 11:00pm on both Friday and Saturday, August 30 and 31, 2013. The festivities will feature:

  • Fantastic food & beverage
  • Outdoor Movie Night – Despicable Me.
  • Live performances  - Disco & Elton John!
  • Basket Raffle Silent Auction
  • Grand finale pyrotechnic fireworks show!
The event will culminate Saturday evening with a 20-minute fireworks show that will begin at 9:00pm. Highpoint Lawn Service has stepped up to the plate as Blast Title Sponsor to fund the Grand Finale fireworks show. 

“The sponsorship by Highpoint Lawn Service allowed us to move forward with getting this year’s BLAST off the ground,” said Stow Mayor Sara Drew. “Their investment in our community event is pivotal to the existence of this event, and we thank them for being such a great community partner.”

Feature entertainment will be provided by Boogie Fever, the ultimate 70’s disco band performing live on stage from 6:00pm to 9:00pm on Friday night. Outdoor Movie Night Saturday night, the performances will include  Captain Fantastic  and 52 Street, a tribute to both Elton John and Billy Joel, beginning at 7:00pm, with a break at 9:00pm for the fireworks display, and then continuing on after the fireworks until 11:00pm. 

Children will enjoy a wide array of high adventure attractions such as the Wild One, the bounce house and the inflatable slide. In addition, children’s games of skill will also provide loads of fun and prizes! For adults, a gift basket silent auction will be held by the Stow-Munroe Falls Chamber of Commerce both days. The Rotary Club of StowMunroe Falls will have their usual golf ball drop on Saturday night at 8:00pm. Other informational, activity and business booths will also be a part of the line up.

An array of delicious food and beverages will be available for purchase from a number of local vendors such as Swenson’s Food Truck, Chic-fil-A, Handel’s, Teresa’s Pizza, D’Angelo’s Delights and the Boosters. The menu will include sausage sandwiches, burgers, dogs, pizza, french fries as well as fried cheese, chicken sandwiches, cupcakes, cookies, cotton candy, kettlecorn, ice cream, funnel cakes and more. Beer, pop, wine, lemonade, shakes, snow cones and bottled water will round out the menu.

Free parking is available, including separate handicapped and motorcycle parking areas. The event site is conveniently located next to the Stow hike and bike trail. So, walking or bike riding to the festivities is highly recommended! In addition to Highpoint Lawn Service, a number of other local entities have stepped forward to sponsor this year’s Stow Summer Sunset Blast.
