Another example of being the excellent school district that we are.

A friend of mine attended her very first ever SMFCSD BOE meeting last night! She was interested inRead More the 5 yr. Forecast that was to be discussed as well as hoping to address the Board. Neither took place. She does not have FB and asked if I would post the following: "I guess when the SMFCSD Treasurer, Catherine Bulgrin presents a 5 year forecast to the Board, they are not supposed to ask any questions pertaining to the assumptions. Board members should ask questions in private, not in public at least that was according to BOE President Karen Wright whom is the cousin Mrs. Bulgrin? When Board member Mr. Armstrong's questions were about errors and the validity of assumptions he was told by Ms. Wright that they did not have time for this and he should have asked these questions prior to the meeting and then she quickly banged the gavel not allowing any further questions. Does she not realize that Armstrong was elected to do just what he attempted to do last night? I couldn't hear the entire conversation (not sure mics were working) but I think he said that the expenses were overestimate by $2-$3 million dollars giving a much higher cash balance than the $22 million the Treasurer was reporting.

This would be HUGE considering we just passed a NEW levy last year. Armstrong also stated that heRead More was given the forecast late Thursday night and that revision were made up until the meeting. How was this Board able to review this forecast in detail and vote to APPROVE it? Isn't Armstrong an accountant? He felt more time was needed and apparently found several errors....does anyone else see a problem with this? I have a few questions....where did all this money come from? Why does this Board seem to rubber stamp everything without any questions? Is this money the levy money that was so badly needed for the children? How many errors are actually in the forecast? As for asking my questions, I apparently did not fill out the correct form and should schedule a private meeting with the Administration. No thank you. After this meeting, my trust is no longer given. I have always supported our schools and this administration on BOE. I recently became interested in the BOE meetings because so many people are talking about the behavior of the Administration and some BOE members. Not believing everything I hear, I had to find out for myself. I urge anyone reading this to do the same. When you hear there is only one member doing the job he was elected to, your hearing right. Mr. Armstrong, I owe you an apology. If you choose to run again, my vote will go to you.

----> to Mr. Thrice ♪♫♪ It's my party and I'll cry if I want to♪♫♪ Well, Actually it is not myRead More party that is the majority. As a professional Industrial Engineer, trained in all aspects of six sigma and lean manufacturing, there is waste everywhere. It is up to our elected governing officials to identify and eliminate. I've lived through the poor planning with the roads in my development, flooded basements because of a miscalculation of the size of retention basin needed for water flow which triggered a series of flooded basements when they built Calls Farm, Fire Dept schedule is unlike any schedule you would ever get in the private sector, the court house is costing us (Robart told Fritschel it would, but she was too busy doing jello shots at Fox Den where the former owner of LC got hit by one of her drunk chronies driving a golf cart and broke his legs), sat back and watched to former manger/golf pro of Fox Den court the city to buy the course by hosting spring clean up days when it started bleeding cash, etc. Where is the downtown square? Did I miss it as I was driving past the courthouse, that doesn't match the architectural design of the City Hall. And don't get me started about the design and condition of the High School. I could go on......and it is NOT my chosen party in control, so I'll Cry if I want to!

There is a police officer currently in the high school. So why is it that when they bought theRead More teachers new MacBook laptops to keep their grades on, many of them were stolen from the classrooms while there was a police officer IN THE SCHOOL. This ia a waste of taxpayers money. Perhaps the mayor should try something more palatable like fixing the crumbling streets.
BULLDOG May 15, 2013 at 02:00 pm
CHUCK,you forgot all the drugs and drug sweeps, sexual acts in halls, weapons ,fights ,smoking inRead More parking lot before and after school .IN picture above is this a typical scene of the officer at high school. So in my opinion having a officer there is not worth having there until we get someone there that puts an end to this.

I wear a holster with a handgun every day and it's completey hidden. You would probably beRead More surprised how many armed people you come in contact with on a daily basis and you don't even know.

Sadly, the high school does not offer an IB course of study at this time. It certainly wouldRead More complement the plethora of current AP options, though.

It's a shame this grant was denied, I'd much rather have our teachers trained to recognize problemsRead More before they escalate rather than an unnecessary full time police presence.

So, the district has 22mil. in the general fund?, last nights meeting was a real joke. Could it beRead More true that Mr. Jones was under the influence? late to the board meeting?. more lies from that Bulgrin lady?. these two must go now, and vote in all new board members, and not the ones that hang at the same golf course or bar.
Barney Miller May 22, 2013 at 01:36 pm
How long to get approval for an article? Mr. Fredmonsky.

I see Patch, once again, deleted the post where I posted the names of the juveniles. Why? IRead More realize you work for Patch, so therefore you really haven't a clue what you're doing (because if you did, you wouldn't be writing for Patch), but their names have been publicly released. It's irrelevant that Patch might have a policy where YOU do not release them (although you originally posted them -- which only further proves how clueless some of the Patch staff is), but deleting them when someone puts them in the comment section is separate. What are you afraid of? Don't bother -- knowing how Patch explains things, it'll be nothing but excuses to mask their cluelessness. Stop deleting stuff because YOU don't like it. Their names have been released.

I moved to stow almost 4 yrs ago with my fiance, step daughter and my 2 children. I was thrilled andRead More excited to be in a nice neighborhood with a bigger school and hopefully bigger opportunities. My son at the time was 16 and a staggering 6'6 now 6'8 so I was very hopeful that sports would take over his life after a very stressful custody battle that really took a toll on him and my daughter. Instead of sports taking over, drugs took over. It started out I believe with marijuana and over the last 2 years it escalated. At first you think its teenage crap and with discipline they will snap out of it and before you know it your world is spiraling out of control and you dont know where to turn. You wonder when your going to get the call that your Child is dead. We need to reach the parents of these youths, they are the ones that need the help first so they can be knowledgeable on how to properly SEE (without blinders) what is going on, how to cope, and to safe guard themselves while doing what may not feel right but what is right for their loved one. Nobody including my son woke up and said "I think Ill be a drug addict today, Ill hang with the wrong crowd,be a criminal, be a disappointment to my family, feel so LOW about myself that eventually I want to end my own life."- said no drug addict ever. If there is any family member out there that suspect that their loved one is doing drugs there is help. CARE citizens for addiction & recovery education find us on Facebook we will help

I can't speak much about Canton, since I live in Stow, But I can tell you that the public library inRead More Stow has many free program for kids of all ages and all interests, including anime, manga, gaming, and teen fiction. The Summit Lapidary club has a fantastic multi-age program for kids & teens interested in rocks, minerals, and gems and it costs only $12 per year per family. Summit County MetroParks offer many programs throughout the year as well - and loads of hiking trails and outdoor educational opportunities. There are many performing arts organizations like the Summit Choral Society which offer low-cost concerts (as low as $7.50 - $10 per ticket for several hours of live music) and educational programs with need-based financial-aid available for kids. Girl Scouts costs $12 per year to join and also has financial aid available. The Akron Art museum has a free weekend every month. This is just the tip of the iceberg, really. The programs are out there regardless of income level.

All last summer a man toiled away days upon days working on putting together a stone planter. It'sRead More beautiful. Almost every time I drove down Call road there he was working away. Guess where that new sidewalk goes straight through?
