Road Work Bus Tour Shows Council Existing Projects, Proposed Repairs
Stow City Council reviews street repairs across city
Members of Stow City Council hopped a bus this week to tour the city's road projects planned for 2013, repairs already under way and proposed upgrades for 2014. Council toured 18 different points of interest that ranged from paving repairs and sidewalk upgrades to street work proposed for next year. Nick Wren, Stow's service director, said the tour included the nearly finished upgrades to Hudson Drive and Commerce Drive. "Really, to us no one area is more important than another," Wren said. The devastating tornado that rocked Oklahoma on Monday leaves many wondering how to help — even from hundreds of miles away in Stow. According to the Red Cross: "The 14 Red Cross Chapters in NEO are currently on alert waiting for the possibility of local volunteers to be called for deployment to assist with the aftermath of the devastating tornadoes in Oklahoma." Annual Memorial Day Ceremony Planned for Monday
After the ceremony in the cemetery, a wreath will be dedicated at the doughboy statue.
This year's annual Memorial Day Ceremony will feature a parade assembly and march to a monument with local scouts, the color guard, veterans and a firing squad. The Stow-Munroe Falls High School Symphonic Band will also perform prior to the presentation of the Poppy Princess and Prince. In addition, a proclamation will be presented by Stow Mayor Sara Drew, official remarks will be presented by George Fisher, Commander of American Legion Post #175 and V.F.W. Post #4738 and James Costello, Stow City Council President. Stow Man Pleads Not Guilty in Child Porn Case

A Stow man has pleaded not guilty to charges of child pornography after being indicted by the Summit County grand jury. Thomas E. Williams, 74, of 3038 Stockbridge Drive, pleaded not guilty in Summit County court to two counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, fourth-degree and second-degree felonies, and one count of illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material or performance, a fifth-degree felony. Williams pleaded not guilty May 1 before Summit County Common Pleas Judge Alison McCarty. The grand jury charged Williams via a secret indictment in April. Stow Looks to Define Drug Lab Houses
New legislation allows for identification of meth and other drug labs in residential properties
After several meth lab discoveries, Stow City Council is considering creating a new section of the city code that deals specifically with the identification, notification and clean-up of "clandestine drug labs" in residential properties. Council reviewed proposed legislation Monday in committee that would establish chapter 1313 in the city code to target such drug labs and spell out exactly how the city would address the properties. Amber Zibritosky, Stow's deputy law director, said the new legislation, if approved, would give city officials the ability to address properties that otherwise tend to become vacant or abandoned once identified by law enforcement as being associated with a dangerous drug lab.
