Soldier Responds to Second Grade Letters, Sends Certificate of Appreciation

A sergeant stationed in Afghanistan read the letters written by second graders to his fellow soldiers and more recently, he responded to the students at Highland.

The second grade students at Highland Elementary have a new pen pal — Sgt. David Krise, who is stationed in Afghanistan.  Anna Zampelli's second grade class at Highland began writing letters to Krise last Christmas at the request of a parent.  Many of the students sent holiday greetings and asked a lot of questions. In response, Krise more recently wrote a letter to the students and shared what the country looks like, his troop’s job building schools and houses, transportation methods as well as the role the soldiers play in their deployment by protecting the United States and the people of Afghanistan. In his letter, he also described safety measures the soldiers must take and a birds-eye view of a day in the life of their deployment. “I …
