Stow Allergy Sufferers, Beware

Pollen count expected to remain high throughout the week.

Allergy sufferers, get out those tissues. You could be sniffling and sneezing all week. Grass pollen and dock in Stow is increasing because of drier air, according to Pollen.com.  The Weather Channel forecasts moderate pollen counts until the end of the week in Stow. But if you can get outside, it will be an otherwise nice week to do it: mild temperatures today will yield warmer days throughout the week, and rain is not expected until Friday. At Least 2,000 Without Power After Tornado Warning

High speed winds whipped through Stow causing power to go out to homes and businesses.

About 2,300 customers in Stow, Brimfield and Kent are without power following a storm that brought Tornado Warnings to the city, said Ray Martinez, spokesperson for FirstEnergy Corp. "I believe those numbers will climb," said Martinez. "We have blown fuses, breakers still open and lines down." The power went out around 8 p.m. May 25. Martinez said he is unsure when power will be restored. At one point, power was out for about 3,000. "I can't begin to give an estimated time of restoration," he said. "The rain is coming down hard and it's difficult for guys to patrol the lines and see where problems are." Outages are scattered, but several are …

Stow Police Dog Helps In Arrest of Three for Theft

Three Stow teens are charged with misdemeanors in connection with thefts from cars.

The Stow Police Department dog helped officers in the May 18 arrest of three Stow men, who are charged with various misdemeanors in connection with a string of car break-ins. A Muirwood Place resident reported to police that he noticed people breaking into cars on his street. The resident shouted at the suspects and when police arrived, the suspects fled. The police dog, Nero, tracked and located one teen, whom police arrested. Police saw two others get into a car and flee. Police stopped the car and arrested the two men inside. Some of the items taken from the cars was recovered and many items remain at the police department for the owners to claim. The items, worth about $1,200, include a global positioning system, a computer monitor, a …

Video: Thousands Gather in Cleveland to Pay Tribute to Bastock, Fallen Officers

Police departments from all over Northeast Ohio gathered in downtown Cleveland May 20 for the 26th annual Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Service.

Fallen Stow Officer Jonathan Bastock's name was added to the Greater Cleveland Police Officers Memorial  May 20 and the Stow Honor Guard had the honor of leading the parade. Stow Police Chief Louis Dirker said it was unusual to be inducted to the memorial so quickly. "Since Jonathan passed so early this year they did not want to wait until next year to induct him into the memorial," said Dirker. Bastock, 47, of Cuyahoga Falls died from a blood clot Feb. 5 while recuperating from knee surgery while on injury leave after falling on ice during a call in January. "We are very pleased that Jonathan’s [has been] added this year and it is quite an honor for the department to have the Honor Guard lead the parade," the chief said. "Special thanks …
