Police Catch Man Claiming to Have Gun During Robbery

The following information was supplied by the Stow Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Stow Police arrested Randy William Korcker a few days after witnesses said he robbed Acme Sept. 25 around 2 p.m. and initially got away because he threatened he had a gun.  According to a police report, security officers approached the man who was seen shoplifting. When they tried to detain him, the man reached into the waistband of his pants and said he had a gun. The security employees “backed off and watched him get in a black vehicle” and leave, according to officers.  A gun was never seen and the man left the items he attempted to steal when he ran to his car.  On Oct. 2, Police Lt. Anne Stirm said Krocker, 53, was arrested outside of his home at 3070 Kent Rd. without incident Sept. 27. "An officer who was aware of the warrant and …

Is That a Steak in Your Pocket? Police News

The following information was supplied by the Stow Police Department.

An Acme employee called Stow Police because a woman concealed several steaks in her purse, clothing and pants and walked out of the grocery store.  The woman, a 43-year-old from Ravenna, did not pay for seven steaks. The stolen porterhouse, filet mignon, T-bone and strip steaks were valued at $110.

I feel sorry for hungry people, but shoplifting from a grocery store is not very bright. You'd think those steaks down her pants would be mighty warm by the time she got them home.   more ›

Everyone deserves a full table of food on Thanksgiving, and that's why the Stow-Munroe Falls Lion Club is donating food and gift cards to 22 families within the Stow-Munroe Falls School District.  "This is the third year that our club members have chosen such a service project to help families in need within the two communities," said Marty Dennis, chairperson of the project.  Each school will be provided two non-perishable food baskets along with a $25 Acme gift card for confidentially selected families (by the school's staff) to buy their meat and other food items for the holiday.   Councilman John Pribonic, Stow's Acme Manager, helped the club purchase the food and gift cards and the store donated the basket preparation and wrapping, …

I love capers too. One thing that would cause me to shop more at Acme is if it was open in the evening longer, but I guess they know their clientele. We work late many times and therefore must resort to a store that's open past 9 or 10PM. Acme just closes too early.   more ›

Kids Corner Closed, Not in Acme's Remodeling Plans

The free child care service offered at the grocery store was closed indefinitely March 25.

Kids Corner, the free child care facility inside the Acme Fresh Market on Kent Road, closed today and one full-time and five part-time child care employees are out of a job. Not only are six employees no longer working at Acme, but parents no longer have the option to have their children cared for while shopping for groceries. "It's always sad for something to leave, but I hope shoppers are very excited about whats coming," said Acme Executive Vice President Jim Trout about the remodeling happening this spring to the exterior and interior of the store. He added that all of the employees who no longer have a job through Kids Corner, may apply for a position at the grocery store. Although the free child care service will no longer be offered…

Just another bad decision on Acme's part! The Stow Acme has gone down hill since the decision was made to move a very prominent manager who was well known in the community and knew his customers by name. NOW they feel that closing the Kids Corner is yet another good business decision? Who is running this company? I'm sorry but improving the entrance and parking lot will not make up for the huge …   more ›

Acme Making Improvements to Entrance, Parking Lot

The grocery store is going to make more than $1 million in improvements to the parking lot and store entrance after Easter.

Acme Fresh Market is going to spend $650,000 on a new entrance and $450,000 to change its parking lot that many drivers find "totally confusing." That's what City Council President Janet D'Antonio said about the current lot and said during Monday's meeting she is "glad [they] are looking to change it." The $450,000 will be spent on realigning and resurfacing the lot and installing new landscaping islands. New light fixtures will also be added, said Robert White, a representative for the project. "We'll install high performing fixtures and eliminated several of the poles," he said. "The height will be the same but the light is more efficient and we'll get a better light pattern on the parking lot. " To get the most use out of the entrance, …

I think the changes are a good idea. That lot is tough to maneuver because of the one way, angled parking aisles. Losing the spaces doesn't seem like a big deal because that lot is never full anyways. Though I don't think it's that confusing; you just need to drive it once or twice to get the hang of it. Cheers to the changes.   more ›

Bank Robbed in Stow Sunday Morning, Police Searching for Suspect

The teller gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money.

Stow Police are looking for a man who robbed the Charter One Bank inside the Acme grocery store Jan. 23 around 11 a.m. Police only have a broad description of the suspect, but he was described as having a medium build (185 to 205 pounds), about 5-feet 10-inches tall, brown hair and about 40- to 45-years-old. He was last seen wearing a tan Carhartt jacket and blue jeans and wears glasses, said police. A female teller at the bank said she was approached by the suspect and handed a note that said, "this is a robbery," according to the report.
