Stow's done it twice before, now that it's the last game of the season the rivalry matchup needs Facebook votes to be featured on six Summit County digital billboards.
Think the rivalry between the Stow-Munroe Falls High School football team and Cuyahoga Falls High School is big enough to be featured on six billboards in Summit County? Then vote for the matchup Friday to be featured as the game of the week on Facebook. If the Stow/Falls game is selected, it will be featured as the game of the week on six Summit County billboards beginning Thursday, according to Billboard Game of the Week. The Stow/Falls matchup is Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. at Stow-Munroe Falls High School. This would be the third time Stow showed team spirit online to be featured as the Akron General Sports Medicine Billboard Game of the Week. There are six digital billboards that the game would be advertised on: Clear Channel Outdoor, which …

The wellness facility hosted its first-ever treadmill race Jan. 30.
Bob Fratena and Amy Hovan, trainers at Lifestyles in the Akron General Health and Wellness Center, dared runners to participate in a winter race. Normally, runners are getting prepared for their first race at the start of spring. "What could we do to stay motivated in the winter months?" asked Fratena. "We knew a treadmill race would break up the winter." And so, for the first time ever, the Treadmill Triple Dare challenged 20 participants to give it their best in three different 10 minute events on a treadmill. The first challenge was hills. "We set the incline at 8 percent," said Fratena. "The more distance you cover, the more points you will receive." The second challenge was distance, where runners or walkers covered as much distance …

Columnist started her resolution a month early, so don't make her wait for the elliptical.
I don’t like vegetables. I don’t like exercise. I don’t like spandex. I also don’t make New Year’s resolutions because I don’t believe in waiting to make a change in my life. If a change needs to be made, then the time to make it is at that moment. It’s for that reason that I joined Akron General LifeStyles on Allen Road in Stow a month ago instead of waiting until the New Year to join the hoards who will resolve to lose 50 pounds in 2011. I’ve needed to join a gym for years, but money and time were hindrances to health. However, around Thanksgiving, I threw out my back for about the hundredth time, so I resolved then and there to get into better shape. I’ve been going nearly every day for a month, and I have to say that it’s not so bad. …

January is the busiest month for fitness centers in Stow.
Business is booming at fitness facilities throughout Stow, thanks to the annual tradition of making New Year's resolutions. And across the board, money-saving deals are being offered by those facilities to help people achieve their goals. "January, as I'm sure every other fitness facility in the nation sees, is our biggest-selling month. We see about a 15 percent increase in members and usage," said Mark Feakes, director of Akron General's Lifestyles Fitness Center North, a medically-based health and wellness center. "Any fitness facility (could) show you this bell-shaped curve, starting high in the fall. Business ramps up in January to its highest point, then starts going downward to the low point of the curve in July and August," said …
