Officers Find Heroin, Meth, Syringes, Knives After Routine Traffic Stop

The following information was supplied by the Stow Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Stow Police Officers pulled over an Akron woman April 21 because of an equipment violation, but found several other subsequent offenses.  First, police noticed that the woman was driving under suspension, according to the report. After officers arrested the 33-year-old woman, police said they found a substance believed to be heroin, methamphetamine, syringes, spoons, a glass pipe, straws, a prescription bottle of Ibuprofen, two knives, scissors, tweezers and an orange plastic water bottle with a spoon and syringe. 'This is a Robbery!' Man Flees from CVS without Cash

Joseph Richard Schratz IV, 40, of Englewood Drive in Stow was arrested and charged with robbery by Stow Police Saturday morning after yelling "This is a robbery!" in CVS and fleeing the business without any cash. Stow Police said they went to the CVS on Kent Road and a witness said a white man wearing a blue jacket, grey T-shirt and blue jeans stood in line to pay for an item and then attempted to grab the register drawer when it opened.  The clerk forced the drawer closed and the man left and was seen taking off in a red car without any money from CVS, according to the report. No weapon was seen or threatened, said police. Police said the description they got at CVS of the man matched that of a male who committed a robbery in another city…

No Federal Arrest Made in FBI's Criminal Investigation

The FBI is working with several enforcement agencies, including the Stow Police Department, on a case that started in Caldwell, Ohio, a special FBI agent told Stow Patch.

Brooks, of the FBI's Cincinnatti office, said no federal arrests have been made. Stow Police Chief Louis Dirker said a suspect was "picked up in Stow by FBI agents and detectives from the Noble County Sheriff's Department." A junior at the high school was questioned by Stow officers and the FBI Nov. 16, according to Superintendent Russ Jones. High School Student Questioned in 'Serious Criminal Offense'

A high school junior was questioned at the school by the FBI and Stow police officers and arrested Wednesday night, according to the superintendent.

Read the latest updates here: A Stow-Munroe Falls High School junior was pulled out of class Wednesday afternoon and questioned by Stow Police and the FBI and later arrested and charged with a "very serious criminal offense," according to Superintendent Russ Jones. He added he believed the charges came from Noble County in southeastern Ohio. The student is a junior, but Jones said, "he will not be in attendance at the high school for the foreseeable future." Jones said the student was called out of class to talk with investigators. Intoxicated Man Kicks Window out of Cruiser

A Pennsylvania man, who police said was intoxicated, was being detained in a police cruiser Sunday night at Akron General Hospital when he kicked out the drivers side rear window and bent the door frame.  The Pennsylvania man was at the hospital because he told Stow Police he had two broken knuckles, according to the report. Damage is estimated at $1,200, said police. The man was arrested and sent to Summit County Jail. Vandalism is a fifth-degree felony in this situation and disorderly conduct is a fourth-degree misdemeanor.

Photos: 2 Arrested for Meth Lab Operation with Young Child in Home

Two men were arrested Monday evening for manufacturing methamphetamines in their garage and home with a 2-year-old child in the house, according to Stow Police. When police arrived at 2106 Uniondale Dr., officers saw the men producing meth in the garage as well as throughout the home, said police. The department received an anonymous tip about possible illegal drug activity. One of the men, Stephen Gene McKinney, 41, of Norman Drive, ran into the home with a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic gun, said police. Police also found a loaded .38 airweight revolver in his truck. Police Arrest, Charge Two for Arson

Last night the Stow Police Department arrested and charged two residents for setting their home on fire two years ago for insurance money. The couple — Scott David Purk, 48, and Tammy Purk, 43 — set fire to their home at 2128 Uniondale Dr. in 2009 and it was a total loss, said Police Chief Louis Dirker. The insurance company paid out about $150,000 in claims, according to police. "It was a long investigation," Dirker said. "But Det. Ken Mifflin has been relentless in his accumulation and categorizing of evidence in these cases."  The fire department determined an accelerant was used in the 2009 fire. Scott was also involved in a separate incident in March 2010. Police said he set fire to a duplex in Stow at 2101 and 2105 Berger Ave. The …

Update: Man Charged For Cheek-Biting Incident

Matthew Ziegler, 20, was arrested Jan. 31.

A Stow resident was arrested after being released from the hospital yesterday and Stow Police charged him with felonious assault after police say he threatened his father with a knife, struck him and then bit his cheek.  Matthew J. Ziegler, 20, was arrested Jan. 31 and charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony. He also was charged with assaulting a police dog, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors. Ziegler and the father, who lives on Wimbledon Circle, were treated at an Akron hospital following the incident on Jan. 23, which happened around 2:30 a.m. Police took Ziegler to the hospital  because they used a stun gun to take him into custody. Police News: Son Bites Father's Cheek During Fight, Apprehended by K-9

Stow Police said a warrant has been issued.

Stow Police responded to a call Jan. 23 around 2:30 a.m. when a Wimbledon Circle resident's 20-year-old son allegedly threatened him with a knife, struck him and bit his cheek. Both the victim and the suspect were treated at an Akron hospital and a warrant has been issued for the suspect, according to Sgt. Jeff Breznak. Charges are expected to be filed when the suspect is released from the hospital —possibly this week, said Breznak. The case is still under investigation by the Stow Police Department. The suspect fled the area when police arrived and was apprehended by the police officers and 7-year-old K-9 officer, Nero, according to the report.
