Friends Heather Rice and Tara Colopy, both 33, have shared the same dream of opening a unique, local, "sparkly" bakery for years and now that dream will become a reality in just a few weeks. Holly Phillips won Betty Crocker's online gluten-free recipe contest after receiving the most votes online.
Holly Phillips of Stow was delivered her "golden ticket" not by chocolate bar, but via Fed Ex Nov. 1. She received word from Betty Crocker that she won the Betty Crocker gluten-free recipe contest and was the winner of $5,000 and some other great prizes. "My hands were shaking when I opened it. When I saw the word 'CONGRATULATIONS!,' I felt like I had found the golden ticket! I was so excited, I couldn't believe it was real," said Phillips. Thousands of entries were submitted, but Phillips' recipe for apple spice cupcakes with maple cream cheese frosting and candied walnuts was selected out of thousands of recipes as the winner. Holly and Tom Phillips of Stow are opening a bakery in Stow in a few weeks, but there's still something missing and will remain missing from the shop — wheat. The bakery, Mrs. P's Gluten Free Bakery, has the motto: "No Wheat, Just Sweet." "Not so long ago I was depressed about my Celiac diagnosis, but I was determined to make delicous gluten-free food that could be a household staple for my family," she said.
