Stow's Top 5 Police Stories of 2012

There was a lot of crime in the city this year. Here are the five most-read stories.

Police and Fire is one of the most-read sections on Stow Patch each day. But in 2012 there were five stories that took top billing as the most popular stories on the site.  We've rounded them up in one post for you, in case you missed it. 1. Logan Andrew West, 18, of Stow was arrested Aug. 6 and charged with raping a child under the age of 10, Portage County Sheriff officials said. West was indicted on two counts of rape — both first-degree felonies — and if convicted, faces mandatory prison time (which could include a life sentence) and he must register as a sex offender in Ohio. Story here: Stow Man Charged with Raping Girlfriend's 15-Month-Old Baby 2. This isn't a crime story, per se, but it did get a lot of you talking. Stow Patch …

Gino's Porchlight Vigil, the Gift of a Kidney and Support for a Transgender Teen: Patch’s 2012 Year in Review

What do you think were some of the biggest stories from Patch’s Ohio sites in 2012? Tell us in the comments.

As the year ends, we're taking a look at some of the most-read local stories on Ohio’s Patch sites in 2012. The stories above are the ones that readers read and responded to the most. They had long discussions in the comments and shared them on Facebook and Twitter. Many of the stories are of loss in our Patch communities, but others, like the video of the Navy dad's homecoming on Fairlawn-Bath Patch or the story of an employee who gave his boss a kidney on Cleveland Heights Patch, inspire hope.  Click through the gallery above for a brief look at some of the most-read local Patch stories of 2012 or click on the headlines below for the  full stories.

Whether it's the company's famous Galley Boy with special sauce or a quarter pounder plus or just a regular single patty, readers thought it was the best place to get a burger out of the following Stow spots: But that doesn't mean Stowites don't have love for those other businesses or their burgers! Here's How to Vote in Patch's My Favorite Survey!

Want to recommend your favorite burger? Write a review on Patch Places.

OK, folks, time to step up to the plate and vote for your favorite burger in Patch's My Favorite survey. Rather than use a poll, we're doing things a little differently: We're asking readers to vote by rating their favorite burger restaurant on the Patch Places directory.  Stow Local Editor Amanda Harnocz then will choose Stow's most favorite burger based on the reviews. Here's a step-by-step explanation of how to vote and tell the world about your favorite Stow burger:  • Step 1: First make sure you are signed in as a user of the site. If you don't have a sign-in, it's easy! Just click on the word 'join' at the upper right side of the home page. We'll then ask for an email address to guard against spammers. Then you're all set to comment …

Patch's inaugural "My Favorite" is kicking off by asking you where to grab the best hamburger (or cheese, please) in town. So here's how it works: We'll list some of the nominations we received last week below. Click on the link (which takes you to our Patch Places directory) and write a review of your favorite burger. If your best burger isn't listed, shoot Local Editor Amanda Harnocz an email to nominate it. Here are the nominees for best burger in Stow: Make sure to vote by writing a review by 9 a.m. Friday.
