More Than 800 Attend Largest Blood Drive in Summit County

City of Cuyahoga Falls and Sheraton Suites co-hosted third annual event Thursday.

More than 800 area residents took time out of their busy holiday schedules Thursday to attend the largest blood drive held in Summit County. The event was hosted by the City of Cuyahoga Falls and Sheraton Suites at the Front Street hotel. Katy Berger, communications associate for the Northern Ohio Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross, said the third annual event was fun, with holiday music playing and raffle prizes being awarded every 15 minutes. Every donor recieved a goody bag that included a pixie poinsettia from The Greenhouse Florist in Hudson and coupons to local businesses and restaurants. The American Red Cross had a blood drive at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Stow March 22.

The American Red Cross hosted a blood drive at St. Stephen Lutheran Church off of Kent Road with several church volunteers. The American Red Cross was looking primarily for type O blood but were accepting donations from all community members. Click here for a list of upcoming blood drives near and in Stow.

Stow Lions Club Hopes to get 35 Donors at Blood Drive

The blood drive will go until 7 p.m. Jan. 4.

Stow-Munroe Falls Lions Club member Bill Dreyer isn't donating blood today, but he is donating his time during a blood drive from 1 to 7 p.m. at Holy Family Church. Dreyer, 75, who donated not too long ago said the only reason he's not donating today is because he is required to wait 56 days to donate again. In total, he has donated 29 gallons of blood, he said. The lions club has about 12 of its 30 members donating both their time and blood today. "We encourage our members to donate and work registration and volunteer their time for the event," said past-president Don Coughlin.
