Commencement ceremony will be at E.J. Thomas Hall tonight.
In 1998, they were Kindergartners. This Thursday evening, 443 seniors will walk across the stage and become the 102nd graduating class of Stow-Munroe Falls High School. The commencement ceremony will be at E.J. Thomas Hall in front of a standing room only crowd at 7:30 p.m. Superintendent Dr. Russ Jones will give the keynote address. The top 10 honor students will be recognized during the ceremony as each one gives a short presentation for the entire student body. Anthony Horton, principal for sophomores and seniors at the high school, said the senior class of 2011 is filled with success stories. “We had three National Merit finalists,” said Horton. “One student had a perfect ACT score. Julie would like to study in Ireland while in college and hopes to become a judge one day.
Julie Rooney, daughter of Tim and Janet Rooney of Munroe Falls, is being recognized as one of the top 10 students from the Stow-Munroe Falls class of 2011 on Thursday at graduation. Describing herself as a competitive, fun-loving intellectual, Julie was a member of the National Honor Society and the varsity basketball and softball teams during her four years at the high school. She was recognized by the Breakfast Optimist Club of Cuyahoga Falls with the Youth Appreciation Award and also received the Stow Booster Athletic Commitment Award. Julie is looking forward to majoring in pre-law studies at Denison University, where she has received the Mary Carr Memorial Scholarship. She hopes to become a judge one day.
