Nominate Someone to be This Year's Grand Marshal in the July 4 Parade

Stow's Fourth of July parade committee seeking input from community.

July 4 may seem far away, especially after the latest snow storm, but the Stow Fourth of July Parade Committee is busy planning for the 2011 Stow Fourth of July Parade. First thing the committee is going to accomplish — selecting its grand marshal. As in past years, the Parade Committee is seeking input from the community to determine who will be selected. The Parade Committee is extending to the public the opportunity to nominate a deserving person for the Grand Marshal of this year’s parade. The person being nominated should either work or live in Stow, and should have contributed greatly to the community in an overwhelming way over the past years.  Nominations received from the public for this year’s parade Grand Marshal are due by …

Letter to the Editor: Council's Discussion On Salaries 'Self-Serving'

Resident Bob Adaska talks about the recent City Council discussions about its and the mayor's salary in 2012.

Letter to the Editor submitted by Bob Adaska: I want to weigh in on the current discussion to lower City Council and mayor's salaries starting with the new term in 2012. First of all, council’s discussion thus far seems rather self-serving. Raising or lowering ones salary for a term you may or may not be elected to, raises some questions. Although the city charter gives the current council this authority, one has to ask themselves if this is in the best economic interest of the public at-large. So far the only thing this council can totally agree on is that they are all serving in the best interests of the public. Yes. This has been allowed on all levels of government but it seems too self serving. In our case in Stow, to eliminate this practice, some organizers in the community are circulating a charter petition asking voters to approve reducing the council's salary for next term to $700.00.
