Radar Signs Slow Traffic Near Schools

School zone radars were installed outside Echo Hills and Fishcreek Elementary schools over a year ago.

Traffic on Fishcreek Road near Fishcreek Elementary has slowed in the past few months due in large part to new radar signs installed as part of a Safe Routes to School Infrastructure Program administered by the Ohio Department of Transportation. The "speed feedback monitors” also were installed at Highland Elementary as part of the ODOT programs' goal to provide safe routes for children to walk or bicycle to school. Stow-Munroe Falls Schools Superintendent Russ Jones said the signs are making a difference. "We appreciate the efforts of Rob Kurtz and city officials for securing the grant for the Safe Routes to School fund," Jones said. WATCH: School Board Accepts Teacher Retirements, Awards Supplemental Contracts

Miss the Sept. 24 Stow-Munroe Falls Board of Education meeting? Watch what happened in this YouTube video added by a Stow resident. The board approved a number of district-wide personnel changes, including awarding more than 30 supplemental contracts. Superintendent Russ Jones recognized the retirement of "two educators who’ve spent a great deal of time with our children," referring to Steven Kalb and Deb Miles. Kalb is retiring Oct. 26 as a physical education teacher at Lakeview Intermediate School after 35 years of service. Miles, a teacher at Echo Hills Elementary School, is retiring effective Oct. 31 after 25 years of service. The board also approved a permanent appropriation resolution for fiscal year 2013.

You can hire 100 more officers and you will still have crimes like these. There have been, and will always be, crimes of opportunity regardless of how many police you have. Hiring more police officers will not have an effect on it. Neighbors watching out for their neighbors and people using common sense will cut down on it.   more ›
