Picture Perfect: How to Snap Photos of Holiday Lights

Fuzzy on how to shoot clear photos of holiday lights? We can help.

Holiday lights add sparkle to so many special moments. When I was a kid, I lived for the night my mom loaded us into the car and drove us around town so we could marvel over the magnificent displays that took hours to produce. We pointed from the car and kept moving. Now, though, folks get out and snap a photo. But the twinkling lights, and other holiday photos, aren't easy to capture. Starting today, we're going to run a series that describes how to snap photos of lights, family and other holiday moments so you can preserve those memories.  I wish I could take credit for this tutorial, but I can't. I got it from Strobist. The blog is published by Dave Hobby and has been around since 2006. This site has a track record; the content and the …

Wanted: Bird Bloggers in Stow

We want your bird photos, your bird observations. Heck, we'd even like to see your birding videos!

Seriously, my favorite radio station is any public radio station and I often pester the editors with re-enactments of the stories I hear.  So when WCPN featured The Cleveland Natural History Museum's Harvey Webster in a show all about birding I was inspired to reach out to you directly.  In the program, Webster mentioned the Audubon Society's weekly bird watching events at parks across the region and several great local bird blogs.  But I'll bet Stow has some undiscovered bird bloggers. And I personally invite you to start your own blog and share your bird photos, observations, heck you can even post a video if you have it.  Are you already blogging about birds? You can post your blog on Patch and reach a wider, local audience.  Questions…

Review Stow Businesses or Claim Your Listing on Patch Places

Patch Places has all of the info on local restaurants, salons, shops and more— make it yours!

When Patch launched in Stow almost a year ago, editors and contributors ventured to local businesses to collect information for our directory. The result: Patch Places. Patch Places is the spot to find descriptions, hours, accepted payment methods and more for spots around town. You can even see what your neighbors think of a business before you try it or write your own review. But local businesses get extra bonuses when they claim a listing. Owners or managers can sign in and search for their business. Underneath the photos, there is a box with the question: Do you own or manage this location? Claim it! Just click "Claim it!" and a form will pop up asking for contact information and authorization to claim it. Within a day or so, someone …

Patch Blogging: No Dissertation Required

Blogs don't have to be novels - or even paragraphs. Check our favorite bloggers who stray from the standard perception

You probably know Patch has a blogging feature that’s open to EVERY person in EVERY Patch town. And I bet you’ve thought to yourself, man. It would be cool to reach thousands of people in my town for free and tell them about my fundraiser, share my favorite recipes or give them my point-by-point analysis of the Browns defense (or lack thereof). Or the 2012 elections. Or that new development proposal in your neighborhood. But, you think, I’m just not a writer. Well, here’s a secret bloggers all over northeast Ohio have discovered: you don’t have to be a writer. Check out our favorite blogs that challenge the traditional format, and if you are inspired to reach your neighbors, just click the green button on our homepage. A Poem: Linda …
