Sleep Outfitters is asking to add onto the former KFC building.
City Council will vote tonight to allow Sleep Outfitters to move into and expand on the former KFC building on Kent Road, according to Planning Director Rob Kurtz. Sleep Outfitters is a mattress gallery. A settlement between KFC Corp. and a franchise owner in the area shut the fast food restaurants down in April 2012. Kurtz said Sleep Outfitters wants to add a 1,200-square foot addition so the building would be 3,900 square feet total. Proprietors have agreed to re-paint the outside, repair the bridge walls and install awings. The only other change will be the elimination of six parking spaces, Kurtz said. "In 2010, KFC sued Rao’s Hospitality, Gita Rao and Ganesh Rao Ponneri, alleging copyright infringement and breach of contract. KFC …

The restaurant will remain open, but if it's still a KFC is still unknown.
The Cuyahoga Falls KFC is set to become a Krispy Krunchy Chicken, but the future of the KFC in Stow is still up in the air. "In 2010, KFC sued Rao’s Hospitality, Gita Rao and Ganesh Rao Ponneri, alleging copyright infringement and breach of contract. KFC said the franchise failed to pay about $175,000 in royalties and advertising fees," according to an Akron Beacon Journal story. In March, Rao's Hospitality and KFC Corp. received a settlement in U.S. Bankruptcy Court and the restaurants were ordered to close by May 31, 2012 at midnight. The Cuyahoga Falls KFC already closed and will be leased to be a Krispy Krunchy Chicken. But, the Stow location that was newly renovated remains open. "The renovations were mandated by KFC corporate, …

KFC and El Campesino restaurant will make changes to their restaurants soon.
KFC and El Campesino on Kent Road will be getting facelifts in the next few months after City Council OK'd changes for the restaurants. Michael Jones, applicant and architect for the KFC project, said the project should begin sometime in the spring. The building will be redesigned with different bricks and the overall color will change from beige to dark red. "We appreciate all the time and effort put into this project. It looks like both the planning commission and you guys put a lot of work into it, looks like a nice addition to the area," said Councilmember Jim Costello. El Campesino will be adding a patio to the side of its building this spring. Rob Kurtz, the city's assistant planning director, said the patio will allow room for 11 …
