July Was Hottest Month Ever Recorded In Continental U.S.

No, it's not just you; it was a scorching July

This past month wasn't just the hottest July on record, it was the hottest month in the recorded history of the continental United States, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The average temperature for the country was 77.6 F, more than three degrees above the 20th century average. The previous warmest July for the country was in 1936 when the average U.S. temperature was 77.4 F, the NOAA said. This unprecedented heat continues the country's literal hot streak. First Half Of Year Hottest In Recorded U.S. History

You knew it was hot but you might not have realized how hot.

Anyone who stepped out of the air conditioning last week knows that it's been hot lately. But they may have realized its been historically hot this year. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), these last six months have been the hottest January through June on record for the continental United States. It also caps the warmest 12-month period the country has experienced since recordkeeping began in 1895. By itself, June was a scorcher. Its average temperature was 71.2 F, two degrees warmer than the 20th century average. Furthermore, more than 170 all-time warm temperature records were broken or tied during the month. When other cities are opening new pools, or combining recreation services, our city government filled in 1 of the 2 city pools. Denison was a place for teens to work and socialize.
