How to Keep Your New Year's Resolution

Five tips to help you follow through on your goals for 2013.

Are you making a resolution this year? Do you want to lose weight, gain a new skill or organize your house? Whatever your resolution is, here are some tips to help you stick to it throughout the year. 1. Make it attainable. Be sure that your resolution is attainable. Sticking to your monthly budget is attainable — making a million dollars may not be. 2. Tell everyone. If you tell everyone about your resolution, you are more likely to keep it. If you want to quit smoking, you can even go as far as telling your friends that you'll give them $50 if they catch you lighting up. 3. Be specific. If you want to get fit in the new year, set a specific goal. For example, instead of saying you want to get fit, say you want to lose 10 pounds and tone …

Here's What Stow Residents Want Resolved in Stow in the New Year

What do you think the city of Stow's New Year resolution should be? Here's what a few people said on the Stow Patch social media sites.

Based on a few comments from Stow Patch Facebook followers, residents are missing a community recreation center in the city. Stow Patch Facebook followers responded to this question just after the New Year: "If you could pick a New Year's resolution for the City of Stow, what would it be and why?" Here's what they had to say: "Give us a Natatorium/Rec Center and an ice rink like Cuyahoga Falls!! We need a downtown!!," said Bob Bethany Pontius on Facebook. "We pay a lot of money to belong to the Nat in Cuyahoga Falls ... and lots of entrance fees to Tallmadge Rec for travel basketball games ... we should have our own!"  This response garnered more than 10 Facebook "likes."  In the past, the city has asked voters for a levy to help build …

Fitness Facilities, not Waistlines, Booming in Stow

January is the busiest month for fitness centers in Stow.

Business is booming at fitness facilities throughout Stow, thanks to the annual tradition of making New Year's resolutions. And across the board, money-saving deals are being offered by those facilities to help people achieve their goals. "January, as I'm sure every other fitness facility in the nation sees, is our biggest-selling month. We see about a 15 percent increase in members and usage," said Mark Feakes, director of Akron General's Lifestyles Fitness Center North, a medically-based health and wellness center. "Any fitness facility (could) show you this bell-shaped curve, starting high in the fall.
