A plaque dedicated to fallen Stow soldier Second Lt. David Rylander now sits at the entrance of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library after the Veterans Day event Monday.
In honor of Veterans Day, the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library dedicated a plaque to Second Lt. David Edward Rylander, 23, of Stow who was killed in action in Logar Province, Afghanistan on May 2, 2012. Second Lt. Rylander died of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 7th Engineer Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York. Second Lt. Rylander, 23, was born on Oct. 14, 1988 in Akron. He was a graduate of home school where he excelled academically and he was an accomplished pianist, member of the Cuyahoga Falls Tigersharks swim team and an Eagle Scout, according to Redmon Funeral Home.

Residents filled the sidewalks outside of Redmon Funeral Home and down Kent Road as Second Lt. David Rylander's military procession passed by May 12, 2012.

Flags in Stow have been ordered to be at half staff, including the one by the Doughboy statue, in honor of the Stow soldier who was killed May 2 in Afghanistan.
The Doughboy — we drive by the statue at City Hall nearly every day, but how often do we really stop to reflect on its importance and what it represents? The plaque underneath the bronze reproduction of the Sentry reads: "Dedicated to those who have served our country. Their memory lives on forever and we shall never forget." In honor of Second Lt. The procession route where the fallen Stow soldier will travel Saturday is already lined with the city's flags.
Saturday's procession route has been set for Second Lt. David Rylander, 23, who was killed in Afghanistan May 2 from the funeral home to The Chapel in Akron. President of Redmon Funeral Home, Keith Redmon, said A FAMILY AND MILITARY PROCESSION ONLY will leave the funeral home on State Route 91 at 10:15 a.m. Saturday and go south to State Route 59. The procession will travel west on 59 to State Route 8 south and will exit at Buchtel Avenue in Akron. All others, please meet at the The Chapel (USE HAMILTON AVENUE) to form the procession to the cemetery. The funeral procession for Second Lt. After finding out that 23-year-old Second Lt. David E. Rylander was killed in Logar Province, Afghanistan after being attacked with an IED, Rep. Steven LaTourette (OH-14) extended his condolences to the family, Army, city and nation. We seem to have stumbled onto the right way of raising our children here in Stow. When our country calls, they answer. Not just in the way of Lt. Rylander and Cpl.
