Confused about why the cones on State Route 8 were set up all weekend but there wasn't any construction going on? Read on ...
Service Director Mike Miller said orange barrels remained on State Route 8 over the weekend and at night without any active road work being done because taking them down cuts into half a day's work. Construction in the southbound lanes on State Route 8 began at the beginning of the month to patch up cracks and potholes on the highway. Councilman Mike Rasor said he's received some complaints about the cones being up and no work was being done during the day on weekdays. "We have to leave the barrels up overnight and on the weekend," said Miller. "The reason being is it takes two hours to set the zone up ... another two hours to take it down, which leaves me with three hours to work then." Leaving the cones up will "hopefully keep this …

The cones will be set up all weekend and construction will continue until June 20.
The cones are sticking around on State Route 8 in the high speed lane for about another week still. Mayor Sara Drew said construction crews are making progess patching up all the cracks and potholes, but there's still work to be done. "I looked at the work site last week and there's a big difference," said Drew. "You can already notice a difference, it's a smooth drive." She added that Street Superintendent Don Brooker said the Ohio Department of Transportation plans to resurface Route 8 in 2016 or 2017, and this time, they won't use concrete. "Hopefully in the future we won't have big chunks coming out anymore," she said.

The occupants of the truck saw sparks while driving down the highway before they pulled over.
The Ford F-150 on State Route 8 Thursday that caught fire was completely engulfed in flames, which caused the highway close for more than half an hour. Stow Fire Lt. Paul Amonett, who was at the fire last night with two more firefighters, said the occupants of the truck saw sparks while driving on the expressway and pulled over near Steels Corners. "They began to remove equipment from the cargo area, but the flames became too intense," said Amonett in the fire report. No one was harmed. According to the report, there was suspicion that the fire may have originated “in proximity of cargo compartment contents.” Police Lt. Anne Stirm said there is no criminal conduct associated with the fire. The truck had both wood and aluminum windows in…
