More landscape equipment reported stolen in Stow
As the warm weather brings out numerous landscapers, so too has summer-like weather brought thieves looking to steal their equipment. Another landscape company reported equipment stolen to the Stow Police Department Monday. An employee with Lamphears Lawn Service told police that while the company's landscape rig was parked in a business lot in the 3500 block of Hudson Drive someone stole two pieces of equipment. The employee told police that someone took a Stihl string trimmer valued at $350 and a Stihl backpack-style leaf blower valued at $500. Late last month, a Stow lawncare company told police someone stole a $10,000 commercial lawn mower from one if its landscape trailers. A third grounds maintenance company told police that a weed …

Two Kent woman have been charged with stealing from the Stow Kohl's. Charmaine D. Gary, 19, of 1300 Petrarca Drive, and Shaneece Green, of 25 Midway Drive, were arrested by Stow Police after employees at the department store reported seeing them conceal clothes and leave the story without paying for the items. The women stole more than $130 in clothing on April 27, according to police. The women, both of whom are students at Kent State University, were charged with theft, a first-degree misdemeanor. Gary, a Warren, OH, native, also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, both minor misdemeanors, after police found a marijuana pipe and baggie of marijuana on her. A Newton Falls man has been charged with stealing hundreds of dollars in machine parts from a Stow manufacturer. Stow Police arrested Cody R. Hornyak, 23, on charges of stealing from Valley Gear Manufacturing on Allen Road after management there contacted police and claimed Hornyak had been stealing from the business. More than $1,600 in miscellaneous machine parts were reported stolen from the business. Hornyak was charged with theft, a fifth-degree felony. He was arraigned in Stow Municipal Court on April 12 and his bond set at 10 percent of $5,000. Valley Gear Manufacturing, located at 4488 Allen Road, is the sister firm of TNT Custom Equipment and operates out of a 45,000-square-foot facility, according to the company's website.

Unsavory behavior On Feb. 25, a security guard asked a man to leave Stow's Akron General Medical Center after he was reportedly caught watching pornographic videos on a computer in one of the waiting rooms. The security guard wrote down the man's license plate number and informed Stow police of the bizarre disturbance. Cleaned out A man living in the 3800 block of Vira Road called police after several high-end items were stolen from his home on Feb. 23. The 32-year-old Stow resident said an unknown number of thieves broke into his house and stole two laptops, two flat screen TVs and jewelry, according to a Stow police report. A Radio Shack clerk alerted Fairlawn police on Feb. 16 after he reportedly watched Eugene R. Chamberlain leave the store with over $1,000 in stolen merchandise. Chamberlain -- a former employee of the Radio Shack in Alliance -- was also allegedly caught stealing at a Radio Shack in Stow earlier in the day. According to the Fairlawn police report, he was confronted by an employee, handed back the stolen items and was allowed to leave. Chamberlain was caught in Alliance on Feb. 17 after an arrest warrant was issued. He was transported to Summit County Jail, was released on bond, and is awaiting trial. Chamberlain, 42, of Alliance, is charged with theft, a fifth-degree felony.

Highly questionable behavior On Feb. 16 at 7:35 a.m., a 54-year-old Stow woman alerted Cuyahoga Falls police after she reportedly spotted a man masturbating while driving on State Route 8. With the tip, officers were able to find and arrest the 29-year-old Canton man. He was charged with public indecency, a third-degree misdemeanor, according to the Cuyahoga Falls police report. Valentine's Day misfortune An Akron woman called Cuyahoga Falls police and reported her Sandhill residence had been burglarized at about 1:40 p.m. on Feb. 14. The burglar smashed through the back door and made off with $2,200 in cash and valuables, according to the police report. The woman intends to prosecute if the crook is caught. A small-time theft quickly turned into a felony drug arrest after a man was found with stolen merchandise, heroin and a hypodermic needle at the Fairlawn Walmart on Feb. 7. Security reportedly spotted William F. Johnson, 53, of Stow, stealing a pair of boots from the men's shoe department, and stopped him as he tried to flee the store. Officers arrived on scene, searched Johnson's pockets and found three small packets of powder that tested positive for heroin, according to the Fairlawn police report. When police searched his car, they found a syringe loaded with drugs. Information provided by the Stow Police Department.
On Jan. 7, someone broke into an unoccupied home in the 3700 block of Sanford Avenue, according to a Stow police report. Thieves used a tool to break into the home, but what was used was not known. Once inside, they stole $3,000 of copper tubing. There are no suspects at the time and it is unknown whether any finger prints were lifted from the scene. If found, suspects will be charged with felony theft and breaking and entering.
