Class Lists Posted Six Days Before Start of School — Is it an Inconvenience?

Parents have taken to Patch and social media to say they are upset that the class lists can't be posted sooner than Aug. 17, a few days before the start of school.

Patch announced this week that elementary class lists will be posted on school doors Aug. 17 — six days before students are supposed to report to class.  Many parents commented on the Patch story and on the Stow Patch Facebook page about their discontent: Some schools/classes have supply lists posted on the district's website. Fishcreek has a .pdf of the Kindergarten supply list. Check your respective school building for a list that may be online. Teachers or parents can add the school supply list to Stow Patch by clicking here.  May school supply lists can also be found at businesses like Office Max and Drug Mart. Some people who commented on the site said the supply lists are pretty much the same year-to-year and have already started …

My oldest will attend OHVA again this year, yes. But like SMF, OHVA is a public school so all the usual school supplies are still up to families to provide. My youngest attends Miller South (public) School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Akron. They sent teacher assignments and supply lists in mid-July, which was a welcome and pleasant surprise. However, I experienced 7 years of the …   more ›

Back-to-School Class Lists Will be Posted by Mid-August

Wondering about some back-to-school information?

It's still summer, but back-to-school to-do's are on parent's minds.  The district announced July 25 that class lists will be posted on the main doors for all elementary buildings on Aug. 17 by 4:00 p.m. Speaking of elementary buildings, vote for which school you think is the best in this Readers' Choice poll.  (Note that eighth grade students originally were scheduled to return Aug. 23, they are now returning Aug. 24.)

IM: yes, the supply lists are up, but they are BY TEACHER, not GRADE. I guess I could sit down & compare lists and buy the things that are the same, and THEN go out at the last minute to get whatever is left... but doesn't that seem a BIT inconvenient to you? It does to me. Which is why I'll wait until class lists are posted.   more ›

New Later Back-to-School Date for Eighth Grade Students

The date was only changed by one day, but find out when your eighth grade student needs to show up for school. Start and end times for every grade is also included in this story.

Your eighth-grader will probably be upset if you send them back to school a day early.  Originally, eighth grade students were to report to Kimpton Middle School on Aug. 23. Now, to give the new seventh grade middle school students some time to get used to the new building, eighth graders won't be around until Aug. 24.  "It worked so well at the high school that the superintendent said it would be beneficial for the seventh grade students to become acclimated with a new building," said District Spokeswoman Jacquie Mazziotta.  Here's the new schedule: (the only change is that eight grade students return a day later than originally planned.)
