What started as a simple equipment violation turned into something bigger on Jan. 23. Stow police pulled over Emmanuel Maxwell, 21, of Silver Lake, for not having a back license plate light, according to a police report. After running his name through their system, officers then realized he had a suspended driver's license and his license plate didn't belong to the car he was driving, the report stated. After searching Maxwell's car, officers found 2 grams of cocaine and a straw with cocaine residue on it, the report said. Police charged Maxwell with a felony charge of possession of cocaine. He was also charged with drug paraphernalia, fictitious plates and driving under a suspended license, the report stated.

On Oct. 27, a Stow Police officer pulled over a 2005 Ford Escape in the southbound lane of State Route 8 for not using a turn signal at 1:06 a.m. The driver did not have an operating license, according to the report. After searching the car, police said they found 1 gram of crack cocaine, five syringes, a spoon and two Cialis pills and six green vitamins. The man, Matthew Allen, 25, of Tallmadge was arrested and charged with: He was being held at the Summit County Jail and his car was towed.

Acording to a Stow Police report, a Stow-Munroe Falls High School teacher saw two male students huddled together looking at something in a "suspicious manner." The teacher told officers she walked over to the two youths to see what they were looking at and one boy was holding a Carmex lip balm container in his hand. According to the report, she asked the student to open the container. After reportedly seeing white powder inside, she alerted authorities. A Stow Youth Services report stated that a 14-year-old bought the substance from the other student and snorted it, thinking it was cocaine. Stow Police said they found a man asleep in the driver's seat of his car April 13 at the Stow Municipal Court House. Officers woke up the man in his Toyota Sequoia and conducted a sobriety test around 7 a.m. Police found a vial in the car with cocaine residue in it and the man was suspected of using drugs and alcohol, according to the report. Steven Paul Craver, 37, of Delaware, Ohio was arrested and charged with physical control of a motor vehicle, a first-degree misdemeanor, and drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. The car was towed. The man was taken to Summit County Jail and released on a $500 personal recognizance bond.

On Oct. 10 a Wal-Mart employee contacted the Stow Police Department to report a suspicious pouch containing personal items with white powder on them was left in the clearance isle. The white powder tested positive for the "presumptive presence of cocaine," according to police. There is no evidence to indicate who left the pouch in the store, said police. The items: the pouch, a small plastic vial with suspected cocaine, hard candy and feminine hygiene products, were entered into police property and marked for destruction.
