The announcement came Tuesday for the annual award.
The school district announced its athletic director, Cyle Feldman, was chosen to receive the Meritorious Service Award by the Northeast Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association for this school year. The purpose of the non-profit is to "To foster high standards of sportsmanship, ethics and integrity, to improve athletic understanding and relationships throughout the State of Ohio," among other goals. "I am humbled to be recognized by my peers, however, awards are the result of hard-working people that are around you. Stow-Munroe Falls High School will dedicate the James G. Tyree Gymnasium before Friday's boys basketball game.
Greatness. Honesty. Dependability. Those are just a few of the many words that have been used to describe James G. Tyree, affectionately referred to as "Coach." Tyree was a man who was honored to serve the Stow-Munroe Falls school community as a teacher and coach for more than 30 years. Now, only a few years after his death, the honor is returned. A special dedication ceremony will be held before Friday's varsity boys basketball game, to honor Tyree's legacy with the naming of the James G. Tyree Gymnasium. Family, friends and alumni will be present to share the memory of a man who touched many lives. Golf Coach Ken Miller will fill in while Cyle Feldman is on extended medical leave.
Ken Miller, who is a retired math teacher and current high school golf coach, will be taking over as interim athletic director for no more than two months. Beginning Jan. 17, Athletic Director Cyle Feldman will be on extended medical leave. The Stow-Munroe Falls Board of Education is expected to approve the interm appointment during its Jan. 23 meeting at 7 p.m. at the high school.
