Stow to Pay $23K for Sliver of Land for Graham Project

City to buy about 0.05 acres as part of road widening project

The city of Stow is well into negotiations and buying properties along Graham Road for the road-widening project to start construction as early as January 2014. The most recent land buy approved by Stow City Council is for a sliver of land in front of Rocco's Pizza on Graham Road. Council signed off on spending $23,000 for about 0.05 acres of road-front property in front of the pizzeria near the intersection with Hudson Drive. Practically every road-front property on Graham Road from Bath to Hudson roads will be touched by the Graham Road widening plan to improve traffic flow. About 50 properties in total will see some sort of change, such as to the curb or sidewalk, simply because the road will be widened in front of them. Nearly all 50 …

Route 8 Ramps May Close for Graham Road Project

City working on details of project; ODOT will review proposed ramp closures for 2014

Construction on the Graham Road widening project may lead to the closure of some Route 8 ramps during the summer of 2014. Stow City Engineer Jim McCleary said they determined just last month that the Graham Road on-and-off ramps for Route 8 may need to be closed during construction on the project. "It’s very difficult to build some of these projects with the ramps open and maintaining traffic," McCleary said. More than 23,000 cars per day traveled on Graham Road near the Route 8 interchange in 2011, according to traffic data maintained by the Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study. McCleary said whether or not the ramps will be closed remains a bit of an uncertainty for now. If the ramps are closed, how long they will be closed also …

Graham Road Project to Affect 50 Properties

Stow, Cuyahoga Falls start property acquisition process for road widening project

Practically every road-front property on Graham Road from Bath to Hudson roads will be touched by the Graham Road widening plan to improve traffic flow. Both Stow and Cuyahoga Falls are starting property acquisition for the project, which will require the cities to buy pieces of property along the road in order to widen the street. Stow City Engineer Jim McCleary said 50 properties in total will see some sort of change, such as to the curb or sidewalk, simply because the road will be widened in front of them. Nearly all 50 properties will see some portion of land bought by either community to make the project happen. "It’s a fluid number," McCleary said. "There are four or five that we do not have to purchase right-of-way." The attached …

Graham Road Widening Slated for Next Year in Cuyahoga Falls, Stow

The road widening and traffic improvement project will cost $4.3 million and could cut into the properties of some local businesses, including Krieger's Health Foods Market.

Last year, Cuyahoga Falls and Stow city officials asked the Ohio Department of Transportation to call off the Graham Road widening project. This past December, ODOT ruled that the plan was moving forward. On Wednesday night at Stow City Hall, the proposed next steps were laid out by Arcadis design engineer Shane Gault. Gault said the project was given the green light due to a lack of safety and an abundance of traffic congestion, and offered facts, figures, graphs and matrices to back up his assertions. Here’s the breakdown: To fix these problems, Arcadis put together a study comprised of options that could be tailored to the sections of road where construction will take place, he said. Under these various options, the road would be …

My wife and I attended the meeting at Stow City Hall. We are 20 year Stow residents but are long time customers of Krieger's. The Alternative 5 presented reduced the area of dispute at Krieger's to 4 feet with the possibility of reducing the disputed area to 2 feet. The Krieger's attorney stated that they are willing to discuss resolving this final area of dispute. What was not covered in the …   more ›

What Questions Do You Have About the Graham Road Widening Project?

Those questions could be answered during a public hearing Wednesday night at Stow City Hall.

There's been a lot of debate, discussion and disputes about the Graham Road widening project happening in Stow and Cuyahoga Falls.  Tonight, there is a public forum scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. at Stow City Hall. The project, which officials say is to improve the road to make it safer to drive on and to stop traffic congestion in some areas, will cost $5 million. The project is federally funded and the remaining engineering fees will be split between Falls and Stow. This is the second public meeting about the project. Click here for video coverage of the first meeting.  "ODOT is requiring the second meeting as part of an environmental impact study because of public outcry over a portion of the project in front of Krieger’s Health Foods …

Because I know we have so many fanatics around Louis Vuitto USA, I couldn’t resist posting these first looks at the Louis Vuitton Spring 2012 ad campaign from Louis Vuitto Online Store. If you followed a few months ago, you probably could have guessed how this campaign would look – pale, precious and ever so sweet. Study: Krieger’s Parking Lot Would Suffer Net Loss of 19 Spaces in Proposed Widening Project

An engineering consulting firm, hired by Mike Krieger's attorney, details impact of widening project on Graham Road.

Results from an analysis conducted by an outside engineering firm regarding the impact of a proposed ODOT widening project along Graham Road were recently sent to members of Cuyahoga Falls City Council and the city administration. In this study, Wade Trim Engineer David Neumeyer said the “negative impacts and loss of parking spaces” to the Krieger’s Health Foods Market parking lot would be substantial. Neumeyer was hired by Mike Krieger's attorney team to look into the current design for the widening of Graham Road and determine exactly how many parking spots would vanish as a result. The attorneys representing the longtime market’s owner plan to address Council Monday night during the miscellaneous business portion of the meeting. While …

Ah, well then, please let us know when you decide to open up your private business on your private land in competition with the Kriegers, eh? I'm sure they won't be around too long against that kind of competition. Your observations give way to your personal bias in your description of the situation. While I've not heard of anyone being run down on the Kreiger's property I have heard of many good…   more ›

ODOT Widens Details for Graham Road Widening Project

Find out what information the Ohio Department of Transportation is seeking now.

The bulk of Monday’s Stow City Council meeting was devoted to the Graham Road widening plan, which has run into opposition from some property owners on Graham Road. Most noticeably against the project is Krieger’s Health Food Market at Graham and Wyoga Lake Roads, near the Stow and Cuyahoga Falls city lines. Stow Senior Engineer Brad Kosco said the Ohio Department of Transportation has requested new details for the widening project. “This will be our second amendment to the original ordinance that was passed back in 2009,” Kosco said. “Specifically what ODOT is asking for is a alternative matrix be created ... and what that means is the consultant for the cities would put together a matrix or a presentation [explaining] why we’re widening …
