Issue 67, the district's 10-year 7.84-mill levy passed by 3,060 votes Nov. 6, 2012. All but one Stow precinct out of 19 was collectively in favor of the Stow-Munroe Falls School District's renewal levy passing — precinct 3-C. According to final but unofficial results from the Summit County Board of Elections, 11,549 voted for the levy and 8,489 voted against it. The renewal levy will cost the owner of a $100,000 home: Collection will begin in 2014. Precinct 3-C collectively was against the levy's passage — but only slightly. In 3-C, 23 more people were against the levy than for it. Stow residents will have an opportunity to vote on a 7.84-mill renewal levy Nov. 6 for 10 years in the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District.
If Issue 67 — the Stow-Munroe Falls School District's 10-year 7.84-mill levy —fails, the district plans to pursue the renewal levy again. The current five year levy in place is for 7.3-mills and generates $7.3 million annually for operating funds. It expires at the end of the year. The current levy, although passed five years ago at 7.3-mills, is being collected at 8.05-mills. According to Summit County Fiscal records, an 8.05-mill tax costs the owner of a $100,000 home about $250 annually. The millage for the renewal is higher than when it first passed and it is for 10 years, not five. The renewal levy, if passed Nov. 6, will still generate $7.3 million annually for the district. The weekly print paper is suggesting residents vote "for" a 7.84-mill 10-year operating levy.
The Stow Sentry endorsed Issue 67 on Sunday. The paper stated since the Stow-Munroe Falls School District was once again rated "Excellent" in the state report card, the operating money is necessary to maintain that standard. There's still weeks until the election in November, but Patch wants to know — how will you vote on Issue 67 — the 10-year 7.84-mil renewal levy? Be sure to take the unscientific poll and tell everyone why you will or won't support the ballot issue. Patch asked readers in June to take the poll attached to this story and as of Sept. 16, 52 percent of voters were against the renwal levy. I'd rather we fund our schools through income tax rather than property tax. This city is very renter friendly which places too much burden on homeowners. more ›
