Aviation Heritage Fair at Kent State University Airport Takes Off Soon

The Aviation Heritage Fair features activities for both the flight enthusiast and casual fan.

The Kent State University Aviation Heritage Fair at the airport in Stow is back to its original Sept. 15 date. Last year, the date for air show was switched to April to coincide with an alumni event at the university, but since the Vision 21 Banquet (held by the university's college of technology) was canceled, the date for the heritage fair was switched back to September, according to Media Relations Director Emily Vincent. "Other factors also contributed to moving the fair back to September, including that the Yankee Air Force Museum doesn't open until May, so we wouldn't be able to pay for a historical aircraft for the event," Vincent added.  Event admission and parking are free. There is a cost for airplane rides. It's an all-day event…

Delays at Province Apartments; Kent State Students may be Housed in Hotel Rooms

Need for multiple inspections at 596-bed complex delayed issuance of occupancy permits.

Some students at Kent State University will be living in hotel rooms to start the new school year because of construction delays at a new, off-campus student apartment complex.  The privately developed Province at Kent student housing on South Lincoln Street will not have its occupancy permit for at least one of its nine residential apartment buildings by the time school starts on Monday. Bridget Susel, acting head of the Kent Community Development Department, said the delays are due in part to the fact the city's building department has had to conduct multiple re-inspections of three of the complex's residential buildings. One building -- the 168-tenant Building 10 -- is at least two weeks away from receiving an occupancy permit, Susel …

KSU Aviation Heritage Fair Moved Back to September

The event has been pushed back from April to Sept. 15.

The Kent State University Aviation Heritage Fair at the airport in Stow is back to its original Sept. 15 date. Last year, the date for air show was switched to April to coincide with an alumni event at the university, but since the Vision 21 Banquet (held by the university's college of technology) was recently canceled, the date for the heritage fair has been switched back to September, according to Media Relations Director Emily Vincent. Small Plane Slides Off Runway at KSU Airport; No One Hurt

Small commercial aircraft carrying six passengers lands just 6 inches away from North River Road in Stow.

A small plane slid off the runway at Kent State University Airport and landed in a ditch, just 6 inches away from a heavily traveled road in Stow. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports the Cessna T303 was landing at the KSU airport when it went off the runway at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. “Basically what happened is the plane went to land and overshot the runway. It landed short,” Ohio State Highway Trooper Brett Claxon said. The plane ran into a ditch, and after the plane came to a halt, the left wing was a mere 6 inches away from North River Road, near Roses Run Country Club. Six people, including the pilot, were inside the plane. The three adults and three children aboard the small commercial craft were uninjured. The family was coming …

This also happened at Akron Canton airport last week with a 50 seat plane from Chicago. So scary. I just flew in and out of there last week so I asked them what happened on Twitter. They said it was under investigation. Everyone was OK though.   more ›
