Stow Police took down three 17-year-olds last week after patrolling the area for a shooter that fled on foot from Kent. The three Stow teens weren't involved in the shooting, but police say they have their man now.
A suspect has been arrested in the shooting of a 17-year-old teenager during an early morning incident last Wednesday in the Silver Meadows neighborhood, according to Kent Patch. Dustin A. Dent, 24, who police refer to as homeless, turned himself in late Saturday evening to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office in Medina, where he was picked up by Kent Police and returned to Kent. Dent was arraigned this morning in Kent Municipal Court on a charge of attempted murder. He is currently being held at the Portage County jail on a $500,000 bond. Kent Police Capt. The following information was supplied by the Stow Police Department. Turns out it was a "wrong place, wrong time" situation for three 17-year-olds.
The three teens Nero, the Stow Police K9, tracked down in Stow early Wednesday morning for possibly being involved in a shooting in Kent were cleared of any involvment by officers. Kent Police received a call at 12:21 a.m. Wednesday for a report of shots fired. They discovered a male, 17, at 782 Silver Meadows Blvd. with multiple gunshot wounds. According to police radio traffic, the victim had been shot in the head. The suspect fled westbound on foot armed with a handgun, said Kent Police. Officers were looking for a white male in his mid 20s, approximately 5-feet 8-inches tall, heavy build, who was wearing a white sleeveless T-shirt. Three Stow teens are charged with misdemeanors in connection with thefts from cars.
The Stow Police Department dog helped officers in the May 18 arrest of three Stow men, who are charged with various misdemeanors in connection with a string of car break-ins. A Muirwood Place resident reported to police that he noticed people breaking into cars on his street. The resident shouted at the suspects and when police arrived, the suspects fled. The police dog, Nero, tracked and located one teen, whom police arrested. Police saw two others get into a car and flee. Police stopped the car and arrested the two men inside. Some of the items taken from the cars was recovered and many items remain at the police department for the owners to claim. Matthew Ziegler, 20, was arrested Jan. 31.
A Stow resident was arrested after being released from the hospital yesterday and Stow Police charged him with felonious assault after police say he threatened his father with a knife, struck him and then bit his cheek. Matthew J. Ziegler, 20, was arrested Jan. 31 and charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony. He also was charged with assaulting a police dog, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors. Ziegler and the father, who lives on Wimbledon Circle, were treated at an Akron hospital following the incident on Jan. 23, which happened around 2:30 a.m. Police took Ziegler to the hospital because they used a stun gun to take him into custody. Stow Police said a warrant has been issued.
Stow Police responded to a call Jan. 23 around 2:30 a.m. when a Wimbledon Circle resident's 20-year-old son allegedly threatened him with a knife, struck him and bit his cheek. Both the victim and the suspect were treated at an Akron hospital and a warrant has been issued for the suspect, according to Sgt. Jeff Breznak. Charges are expected to be filed when the suspect is released from the hospital —possibly this week, said Breznak. The case is still under investigation by the Stow Police Department. The suspect fled the area when police arrived and was apprehended by the police officers and 7-year-old K-9 officer, Nero, according to the report. Does the 17 yr. old have any info on who shot him? He was just walking down the street and someone walked up and shot him? once in the head? If this is a random act, I hope we have the entire police dept. on this. We all need to be packing just in case. Seems like our victim needs to start talking and telling the whole story.   more ›
