Too Soon to Talk about Cuts if Levy Fails, Says District Treasurer/CFO

Stow residents will have an opportunity to vote on a 7.84-mill renewal levy Nov. 6 for 10 years in the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District.

If Issue 67 — the Stow-Munroe Falls School District's 10-year 7.84-mill levy —fails, the district plans to pursue the renewal levy again. The current five year levy in place is for 7.3-mills and generates $7.3 million annually for operating funds. It expires at the end of the year. The current levy, although passed five years ago at 7.3-mills, is being collected at 8.05-mills. According to Summit County Fiscal records, an 8.05-mill tax costs the owner of a $100,000 home about $250 annually.  The millage for the renewal is higher than when it first passed and it is for 10 years, not five. The renewal levy, if passed Nov. 6, will still generate $7.3 million annually for the district. It would begin in 2013 with collection starting the …

School Renewal Levy Assigned Issue Number for Ballot

Soon you'll see signs in favor of or against Issue 67 — the Stow-Munroe Falls School District's renewal levy on the November ballot.

There's still weeks until the election in November, but Patch wants to know — how will you vote on Issue 67 — the 10-year 7.84-mil renewal levy? Be sure to take the unscientific poll and tell everyone why you will or won't support the ballot issue.  Patch asked readers in June to take the poll attached to this story and as of Sept. 16, 52 percent of voters were against the renwal levy.  Voters will have the opportunity to decide whether a renewal levy that generates $7.3 million annually will be collected for the next 10 years for the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District this November.  The current levy is for five years at 7.3-mils and expires at the end of 2012. The renewal levy, which will still generate $7.3 million annually, is for …

Think about this: If the levy is to fail there will be: No more field trip bussing No more high school busses Less teachers Less support staff Less after school activities if any at all More crowded buses etc. So if the levy doesn't pass have fun. Happened to us.   more ›

Are You For or Against the School District's Renewal Levy this November?

There's a lot of time between now and election day this November, but Patch wants to know if you've made up your mind already about how you'll vote for the school district's renewal levy.

There's still about five months until the election in November, but Patch wants to know — how will you vote on the 10-year 7.84-mil renewal levy? Be sure to take the unscientific poll and tell everyone why you will or won't support the ballot issue.  Voters will have the opportunity to decide whether a renewal levy that generates $7.3 million annually will be collected for the next 10 years for the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District this November.  The current levy is for five years at 7.3-mils and expires at the end of 2012. The renewal levy, which will still generate $7.3 million annually, is for 10-years at 7.84-mils this time. If passed in November, the levy would cost the owner of a $100,000 home: The first collection would begin …

District Closer to Putting Renewal Levy on Ballot

The levy would generate $7.3 million annually for 10 years, but the millage amount is still uncertain.

A 5-year 7.3-mill levy set to expire this year is closer to being on the November ballot. But this time, the Stow-Munroe Falls School District is going to ask voters to approve the renewal levy for 10 years.  The board voted 4-1 to direct Treasurer/CFO Catherine Bulgrin to have the county certify the district's value and how much millage will generate $7.3 million.  Board Member Rod Armstrong cast the dissenting vote.  "I don't feel that we need to go for a 10-year levy, in analyzing the five-year forecast (which was unanimously approved May 29) and knowing what our financial future is, I'm more comfortable dropping the millage by at least $2 million or $3 million and I'd like to go with a 2-year levy." He explained that going for a 2-year…

Renewal Levy on Tuesday's School Board Agenda

Board expected to take the first of two steps toward getting measure on the November ballot.

The Stow-Munroe Falls Board of Education is expected to take the first of two steps toward placing an expiring levy on the November ballot during its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Stow-Munroe Falls High School. A 7.3-mill, five-year renewal levy is set to expire this year. Catherine Bulgrin, district treasurer/CFO, said the $7.3 million the levy generates annually is "crucial." Bulgrin said during the board's May 15 meeting that the district will pursue the renewal levy for 10 years this time. The levy will still generate $7.3 million annually, but because of decreased property values, she estimates the millage will be around 8. Even if the millage is increased, though, the amount each homeowner will pay will remain about the same, …

School Renewal Levy Likely on November Ballot

The Stow-Munroe Falls Board of Education is expected to take the necessary steps toward putting a renewal levy that expires this year on the November ballot.

A five-year renewal levy is set to expire this year and the Stow-Munroe Falls Board of Education is expected to take the first of two steps toward getting it on the November ballot at the next meeting May 29. The emergency levy expiring this year generates $7.3 million annually at 7.3-mills. Bulgrin said passing the renewal levy, which is not a new tax, is "crucial." Bulgrin said the district will pursue the renewal levy for 10 years this time. The levy will still generate $7.3 million annually, but because of new mainly decreased property values, she said she is guessing the millage will be around 8. Even if the millage is increased, the amount each homeowner will pay will remain around the same, she said. During the May 29 meeting, the …
