The project could cost up to $40,000 and temporarily road closures are expected.
The sink hole that developed under a portion of sidewalk on Call Road in March turned out to be a bigger and more expensive problem than officials expected.
Public Service Director Dano Koehler said the large project needs to be contracted out and should begin soon.
City Council is expected to approve a $28,500 contract with Karvo Paving Co. Thursday to repair the failed pipe on Call Road which created a sink hole below the sidewalk at the beginning of March. After inspecting the failed culvert pipe earlier this month, Service Director Dano Koehler said a "considerable length" of storm sewer needs to be replaced on Call Road. "We need to replace a portion of storm sewer — 66-inch pipe — which is a very large job that we need to contract out," he said. He added that because of the hole that developed below the sidewalk (between Friar Road and Fox Run Drive), "Something needs to be done immediately." The Stow-Munroe Falls Public School District is on spring break this week and Koehler hopes to get a …

A hole developed underneath a portion of sidewalk on Call Road between Fox Run Drive and Friar Road.
A portion of sidewalk on Call Road has turned into a makeshift bridge after a sink hole developed because of a failed culvert pipe that will cost the city thousands of dollars to repair, according to Public Service Director Dano Koehler. The pipe is used for draining water, but Koehler said that the broken pipe has not caused any flooding problems in the area as of March 8. "Over a period of time the bottoms do rust out and [the pipes] have to be replaced," he said. "It is not our policy to wait for a pipe to fail before it is replaced. This was an unusual and unexpected event." The service department does not know the cause of the culvert pipe failure. "Perhaps we will know more when it is excavated," Koehler said. It should take a few …
