Once Upon A Child Opens in New, Bigger Location

The store is on Fishcreek Road in the Acme plaza.

Stow's Once Upon A Child has opened in a new and bigger location on Fishcreek Road. Shoppers can find the store in Acme Fresh Market Plaza. Manager Rhyan Soltes said the new building features more space to display clothing, equipment and toys. "We have more space so everything is more organized and more shopper-friendly," Soltes said. "We were able to pull clearance clothing into it's own section." The store also has closer parking, a public restroom and bigger fitting rooms. Once Upon A Child specializes in toys for toddlers and clothes up to sizes 16 and 18. The store was formerly housed in the Target plaza on state Route 59. If you have questions about selling items to the store, call the new number 330-678-7176.

Watch: New Stow Company Featured at Kent Business & Community Expo

The annual event at Theodore Roosevelt High School featured 117 vendors, including Stow-based company Live Intense.

Aside from art, jewelry and exposure, the sixth annual Kent Business & Community Expo provided an example of the difference a year can make. Since last year's edition, the small business exhibition expanded from Theodore Roosevelt High School's gym to include what seemed like the entire building. For the first time, the Kent Area Chamber of Commerce partnered with Haymaker Farmers' Market to offer the goods of farmers like Phil and Mindy Bartholomae, whose Homeworth, OH-based Breezy Hill Farm was featured as part of the new component. The additional space made way for 117 vendors, nearly 40 more than last year. She didn't have an exact figure, but Lori Wemhoff, the chamber's executive director, was confident Saturday's turnout handily …

Akron Brewery Not Seeking to Locate in Stow

Different business with sound-alike name seeking to open restaurant named Thirsty Dog Grille and Brewery.

The Akron-based Thirsty Dog Brewing Co. is not seeking to locate in Stow, as we incorrectly reported yesterday. Instead, it is a sound-alike restaurant, the Thirsty Dog Grille and Brewery — a separate business with different owners — that is gathering signatures.  Pam Lauter is collecting signatures for a petition to obtain a liquor license for a business to be named the Thirsty Dog Grille and Brewery. The first step is voter approval. Lauter said she needs about 200 signatures from residents of Ward 4, Precinct A to get on the ballot. The owners plan a full-service bar and grill at 1063 Graham Rd. where Bob's Big Boy once operated. John Najeway, co-owner of Akron-based Thirsty Dog Brewing Co., said that the owners have asked Thirsty Dog …
