9 Signs Your Neighbor Is a Drug Dealer

Stow Police Det. Tom Gottas and Cuyahoga Falls Police Capt. Jack Davis provide a list of signs that could indicate drug activity in your neighborhood.

The thing about drug operations is they can be set up anywhere, anytime. And occasionally, it's not just police officers that work to find the bad guys. It may all boil down to a tip given by an observant resident. Here are some things to watch for regarding suspicious neighborhood drug activity, according to Stow Police Det. Tom Gottas and Cuyahoga Falls Police Capt. Jack Davis: After a report is provided, it may not always result in a drug arrest as some tips simply lead to dead ends, said Davis. At times, it takes sufficient evidence or a prolonged investigation, so be patient and keep an inconspicuous eye on suspicious neighbors, he said. 16-Year-Old Boy Charged After Sharing Intimate Cell Phone Photo on Twitter

A 16-year-old Stow-Munroe Falls High School student is being charged with telecommunications harassment after taking a photo of a girl performing a sexual act with him and putting it on Twitter, according to a Stow police report.  The act happened on Jan. 28 in a high school stairway, the report stated. The boy is 16 and the girl is either 14 or 15 years old, police said. Using his phone, the boy snapped a picture of the girl while she was performing the act and first sent it to three friends, the report stated. The boy later posted the photo on Twitter and then took it down. By that time, the photo had started circulating in the school, the report stated. They are equally wrong. To have any type of sex act occurring in a public place is illegal. Sexting is illegal when it involves underage children. Sexting, indecent exposure, lude acts, you name it - they did it. And they are ALL against the law. Yes, charges need to be brought against the boy. Seriously. It's the LAW. Woman's Car Tires Slashed Overnight on Iona Avenue

On Jan. 17, a 18-year-old woman parked her car overnight on Iona Avenue, according to a Stow police report. When she walked out in the morning, she found all four of her tires had been slashed, the painting keyed and items were removed from the inside of her car and put on the street, the report stated. The tires on another car farther down the street were also slashed. The damage to the 18-year-old's car totals $2,100. Police said there is a suspect in the case, but no one has been arrested. The suspect faces charges of criminal damaging and vehicular trespass.

Drunken Man With No Driver's License Crashes on Darrow Road

A 30-year-old Clinton man has been charged with drunken driving after losing control and crashing his car on Darrow Road last week, according to a Stow police report. Police said the man went off the side of Darrow Road when he crashed and he doesn't not have a driver's license. When police arrived, they suspected the man had been drinking and he blew a 0.122 in a breath test, the report stated. The legal limit is 0.08. No one was injured in the accident. Police charged the man with drunken driving, failure to control, and not having a valid operator's license. This is his first drunken driving offense, police said.

Simple Traffic Stop Turns into Drug Bust for Silver Lake Man

What started as a simple equipment violation turned into something bigger on Jan. 23.  Stow police pulled over Emmanuel Maxwell, 21, of Silver Lake, for not having a back license plate light, according to a police report. After running his name through their system, officers then realized he had a suspended driver's license and his license plate didn't belong to the car he was driving, the report stated. After searching Maxwell's car, officers found 2 grams of cocaine and a straw with cocaine residue on it, the report said.  Police charged Maxwell with a felony charge of possession of cocaine. He was also charged with drug paraphernalia, fictitious plates and driving under a suspended license, the report stated.

Man Sentenced to 28 Years for Setting House on Fire, Claiming Insurance Money

Scott Purk is charged with setting his home on fire in 2009 plus setting a duplex ablaze in 2010.

A Stow man has been sentenced to 28 years in prison after using an accelerant to burn down his house and claim insurance money. Scott Purk, 50, recieved the maximum sentence in Judge Tammy O'Brien's court Thursday. Purk and his wife Tammy set fire to their home at 2128 Uniondale Dr. in 2009 and it was a total loss, said police Chief Louis Dirker. The insurance company paid out about $150,000 in claims, according to police. "It was a long investigation," Dirker said. "But Det. Ken Mifflin has been relentless in his accumulation and categorizing of evidence in these cases."  The fire department determined an accelerant was used in the 2009 fire. Man's Havanese Dog Stolen From Yard, Still Missing

On Jan. 18, a Friar Road homeowner reported his Havanese dog had been stolen from his yard, according to a Stow police report. The man told police there are two dogs with free access to his yard through a dog door. The gate to his yard was locked and secured before the dog was taken, the report said. After the dog was stolen, police found the door was partially pried open. Police say the dog is still missing. It is a male, black and white Havanese dog wearing a black collar. His name is Barkley and has long hair. If you see this dog, call the Stow Police Department at 330-689-5700.
