Is your child a member of the Ski Club? Share a photo with us below!
Get your hats and gloves, it's time to ski! For Lakeview physical education teacher Geoff Cox, watching children stay active and succeed on the slopes is what motivates him to take fifth- and sixth-grade students to the local ski resort every winter. Cox, a skier and snowboarder himself has served as the Lakeview Ski Club adviser for the past 15 years. He said one of the best aspects he experiences is that he gets to know the students and watch them thrive. The ski club has been around for almost 20 years. "I enjoy skiing, snow blading, and my newest favorite is snowboarding,” said Cox, who has taught in the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District for the past 19 years. “Often, my wife and children come out and ski with us as well.” With …

The first meeting was Thursday night.
One thing was clear after the first meeting of Mayor Sara Drew's safety task force: School and public institution safety is a complex issue. The 10 task force members gathered Thursday in front of a small audience in City Hall's Boards and Commissions room. Stow-Munroe Falls Superintendent Russ Jones was not present. Before they got down to business, Drew asked audience members if anyone had suggestions. Clinton resident Don Michael suggested each building have a covered walkway with metal detectors. The mayoral task force has its first meeting tonight at 5 p.m.

The meeting starts at 5 p.m. in the boards and commissions room at City Hall. Drew has appointed nine area officials to the task force and has asked them to find permanent and sustainable solutions to the issue of enhanced security in Stow-Munroe Falls Public Schools and other public institutions in the city. This is in response to the shooting in Newtown, CT, and from several residents asking what Stow's plan of action is. "There have been several questions about the levels of security knowledge on the task force," Drew said. "We have the two police chiefs and we also have Dave …

The task force has until March to come up with a plan to present to city council.
Mayor Sara Drew created a task force to look at permanent and sustainable solutions to the issue of enhanced security in Stow-Munroe Falls Public Schools and other public institutions in the city following the school shooting in Newtown, Conn. The appointed task force is charged with assessing options and presenting to Stow City Council and the community possible ways to have an enhanced security presence and preventive measures in the schools, library and other public buildings. Drew has given the task force until March 31 to present their ideas to the public. "The community has rightfully and clearly stated that the issue of security in our schools and other public buildings is of great concern," Drew said. "The appointment of this …

All this ralk about school security is a place to start. However the comment that if schools do not use the security correctly, then it is of little value. I personally have gone to Kimpton to pick up my grandkids. Pushed the security button and WITHOUT anyone looking to check me out, the buzzer on the door unlocked. I could have been a mass murderer and I would have been let in. Also at the high…   more ›
