On Monday night, the Stow-Munroe Falls school board passed a resolution that allows active and retired police officers from the Stow and Munroe Falls police departments to carry concealed weapons on school grounds during after-hour events, reports the Akron Beacon Journal. "Allowing off duty officers to carry their weapons to events at our schools provides an additional layer of protection in case a crisis should occur,” Superintendent Russ Jones told the Beacon. Boardmember Fred Bonacci wanted to look at the facts and figures himself and give a presentation on salary/benefit savings from last year.
With 85 percent of the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District's cash going toward salaries and benefits, Board Member Fred Bonacci wanted to know how that money was being handled and what kind of savings happened in the last year. He found out that the district saved $1.26 million on certified personnel. Weeks ago, Bonacci told the public he would investigate and put together a presentation about his findings. During his presentation at the February meeting, Bonacci broke down his findings: (2010-11) (2011-12) Additional costs: Bonacci's findings show that after adding in all the new certified personnel costs, the district saved $1.26 million from the general fund.
