With Chip Kelly off the board, where will Jimmy Haslam and Joe Banner go next?

Around this time last week, I wasn't very high on Chip Kelly becoming the Cleveland Browns next head coach. Yet somehow I spent too many moments of my weekend checking Twitter and ESPN to see if Kelly chose mashed or baked potatoes for his steak dinners with the Browns and Philadelphia Eagles. Finally, on Sunday The Plain Dealer reported the Browns "walked away" because Kelly wouldn't likely leave the University of Oregon. Sure. I believe it. Just like the nerd in high school who told everyone he just didn't think taking the homecoming queen to prom wasn't going to work out. She didn't say no, he just didn't think it was a good idea. No matter what, Chip Kelly will stay in Oregon and Cleveland is back to square one. There are many names …

Who Should Replace Pat Shurmur and Tom Heckert?

It has been reported today that the Cleveland Browns' head coach and General Manager Tom Heckert have been fired on Monday.

Everyone saw it coming after the Cleveland Browns 24-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday, but it was confirmed on Monday: Head Coach Pat Shurmer and General Manager Tom Heckert are gone. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported through Twitter Monday morning that both had been fired after a less-than-stellar 5-11 season. Shurmer had a dismal 9-23 record over his first two seasons as the head coach. He took the position in 2011. Heckert was hired in 2010. With Shurmur out the door, the Browns will begin their search for a new head coach immediately. The Plain Dealer reports some names in the running are University of Oregon coach Chip Kelly, Penn State's Bill O'Brien, Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator and interim head coach Bruce Arians …

I love Jim Tressel and his local history and all, but he'd be an IDIOT to coach the Browns. Cleveland -- where good coaches and QBs come (or get drafted) to commit career suicide.   more ›
