You never think this will happen in your own backyard. But he lives literally across the backyard from our house. You'd never ever suspect it of him, either. Always seemed like the nicest guy...so sad. (Scary that he lives so close to the high school, too - definitely within the one mile range!)

Bravo! You are EXACTLY right. I have had this same complaint for years. My girls are almost 12 and almost 14 and it is REALLY HARD to find appropriate clothes for the older one especially. She is 5'7" tall and we've taken to shopping in the women's section at Kohl's to find appropriate clothes that she herself is comfortable wearing. Last time we were there, I was chastised by one of the clerks for shopping for her in that section. "She belongs in Juniors - this stuff is too old looking for her!" We found a lovely dress that was very stylish. My daughter loved it and I dragged the clerk over to see how it fit. The clerk admitted that it looked very nice on my daughter and was not frumpy or too "old looking." I'll take classy over trashy any day.

Sadly, the high school does not offer an IB course of study at this time. It certainly would complement the plethora of current AP options, though.

I don't think I understand how tactile signing differs from ASL or how it would be possible for someone to fingerspell everything for you. Wouldn't that be time prohibitive and make it impossible for the interpreter to communicate everything being said?

I can't speak much about Canton, since I live in Stow, But I can tell you that the public library in Stow has many free program for kids of all ages and all interests, including anime, manga, gaming, and teen fiction. The Summit Lapidary club has a fantastic multi-age program for kids & teens interested in rocks, minerals, and gems and it costs only $12 per year per family. Summit County MetroParks offer many programs throughout the year as well - and loads of hiking trails and outdoor educational opportunities. There are many performing arts organizations like the Summit Choral Society which offer low-cost concerts (as low as $7.50 - $10 per ticket for several hours of live music) and educational programs with need-based financial-aid available for kids. Girl Scouts costs $12 per year to join and also has financial aid available. The Akron Art museum has a free weekend every month. This is just the tip of the iceberg, really. The programs are out there regardless of income level.

When we traveled in the summer, the trailer was for eating and sleeping. We were off hiking or sightseeing most of the time, so it wasn't a big deal (there were 3 of us siblings for a short while, then two when we were older). RV'ing as a long-term lifestyle with 4 kids would be trickier, I imagine!

My parents had been travelers all their lives. We used to camp all over the country every summer. After we kids grew up and moved out & my dad retired, they sold the house I grew up in and hit the road in their RV. They were "homeless" for 15 years until they decided to settle down once more and over-winter in Florida. Now they only travel in the summer, but hitting the road in an RV can be a fun, inexpensive way to live! When they needed money, they would go stay put for several months and work seasonal jobs until it was time to hit the road once again!

There are already so many "age appropriate" activities available for kids in this area that my own kids fret because there's no time to do them all. These kids in our community certainly have NOT turned to crime because the community has failed to provide suitable activities to keep them occupied.

    That's called daycare, not camp.
