ReplyI won't defend the hyperbolic Republican rhetoric, but how short-sighted it is to blame the GOP for these tactics. Have you already forgotten the oodles of nonsense that was said about Bush and his motives? "He doesn't care about black people." "He hates Muslims." "He went to war for oil." "9/11 was an inside job." etc. etc. .... Unfortunately, this is today's politics. I am frankly stunned that someone is trying to pin this only on one party. Stunned.

ReplyIt's a law that can't be enforced in most cases without police intrusion into the constitutionally protected privacy interest of your phone. In any case, Bluetooth/speakerphone calls should be exempt as being no more harmful than carrying on a conversation with a passenger. Good thought by the NTSB, but poor drafting and execution.

ReplyI am anything but negative about this city. I am negative about its government. That's like saying you can't be patriotic unless you support the president.
I love Stow. The people here are what makes Stow great. The government is holding the city back from fulfilling its potential. In particular, the clique-like attitude at city hall has caused the city to make poor decisions that favor special interests. That's the "Good Ole Boy Network" of which I speak.
I have an agenda, with personal ramifications. It's that I want to raise my family here. With the direction that some of our election officials are taking us, it worries me that I won't want to in five or 10 years.
The government is the problem, and I won't pretend everything's sunshine and lollipops as incompetent and deceitful elected officials tear down our otherwise-great city with irresponsible decisions. If you don't like my perspective, vote for the status quo on Tuesday. John and James, please call my cell phone if you want to talk about this: 330 603 9845.

ReplyEd,
Members of both parties have gone. Drew and Fritschel (Democrats) are going this year, although neither have said whether they will use city transportation or whether the city will fund the trip. I believe the members of council who went in the past were Republicans. It's not really a matter of party affiliation. Only of respect for tax dollars.

ReplyThanks for the comments and suggestions, everybody.
Ed brings up a good point. This trip is more pleasure than business -- and it has always been that way, despite the fact that city officials have used city money for travel and lodging. I'm hoping to add more business to the mix by interceding for residents with agencies, and by paying for it myself. The city shouldn't be paying for elected officials' vacations. There can't be any legitimate debate about that, can there?

From an elected person who HATES yard signs, I liked reading this. Nice work, Ed.
