Mayoral Candidates List Top Priorities if Elected

Find out what mayoral candidates Scott Buck and Sara Drew believe will be their top three priorities are for the city if elected.

During the luncheon Oct. 18, Stow mayoral candidates and (council VP) were asked a few questions in front of a record-breaking 150 person crowd of business men and women at Silver Lake Country Club.

Each candidate was asked to list the top three priorities to focus on if .

The candidate and their respective responses are listed in alphabetical order below:

Scott Buck:

  1. Safety in Stow: Mayoral candidate Scott Buck said he wants to focus on making the city safer and increasing the amount of officers without having to pay higher overtime costs. "I want to talk to employees to find ways to save money," he said.
  2. Economic Development: "I'm done with the economic malaise," Buck said. He wants to focus on getting higher paying jobs in the city because then property tax levels will go up as well. 
  3. Roads: The condition of some of Stow's roads is a safety concern, he said, adding he talked to Service Director Dano Koehler who said the road repairs are about $5 million behind. Buck said he wants to take a look at the budget to find ways to pay for improving the city's streets.

Sara Drew:

  1. Daily City Operations: Mayoral candidate Sara Drew said she wants to focus on the city's daily operations. "We're working safely and efficiently and we're down 40 employees right now," she said, adding she wants to continue to have city employees do more with fewer resources and continue to cross-train employees to share responsibilities. 
  2. New Jobs: Drew said she wants to partner with other communities to bring jobs in through Joint Economic Development Zones. 
  3. Provide a Vision for Stow: "I want to take the city into the future" by partnering with the citizens of the community and the schools to continue to offer current city services, she said.
