Attic Fire Causes $90,000 in Damage

The fire was contained to the attic of the home on Willdowdale Drive May 12.

Damage from an attic fire at 1956 Willowdale Dr. May 12,, is estimated around $90,000 by the .

"The estimated damage was $60,000 for the building and $ 30,000 for the contents," said Fire Capt. Mark Stone. "These are just our estimates as the insurance company will determine their own dollar loss."

The damage was primarily confined to the attic with some smoke damage in the living areas of the house.

Firefighters believe an attic fan in the gable end wall had an electrical short, which caused the fire.

According to the fire report, it took about three minutes for the fire department to get on scene and a few more minutes to get the fire under control.

Eleven firefighters from Engine 1, Engine 3, Medic 2 and the shift commander reported to the fire and stayed on scene for about two hours.  

"The fire crews that responded to the fire did a fantastic job at getting on scene and getting the fire under control with minimal collateral damage to the house," said Stone. "Having well-trained crews and good staffing levels is very important and had a positive impact in this case."
