National Drug Take Back Day: Drop off Unused Prescriptions in Stow

Saturday is National Drug Take Back Day, but there is always a receptacle in Stow to D.U.M.P. old medications.

Have unused medication around the house? Drop it off at on National Drug Take Back Day, or any day!

In April, the Summit County Health District, in collaboration with local community partners, established the  for residents who wanted to safely dispose of their unused drugs.

And for over the last several months, the Dispose of Unused Medicines Properly program has provided residents with a safe, environmentally-friendly way to discard of expired prescription or over-the-counter drugs.

“(D.U.M.P.) has been hugely successful here in Stow,” Det. Tom Gottas . “The collections have been way more than anticipated … the first five boxes of waste that were taken to the incinerator weighed approximately 67 pounds, that's a lot of pills. And that was for less than one month.” 

Pills, capsules, or liquid medications will be accepted at the containers. Syringes will not be accepted. Medications should be kept in the original bottle with the person’s name and address marked out. No questions will be asked, and the medications will be safely destroyed.
