Police Arrest, Charge Two for Arson

Last night the arrested and charged two residents for setting their home on fire two years ago for insurance money.
The couple — Scott David Purk, 48, and Tammy Purk, 43 — set fire to their home at 2128 Uniondale Dr. in 2009 and it was a total loss, said Police Chief Louis Dirker. The insurance company paid out about $150,000 in claims, according to police.
"It was a long investigation," Dirker said. "But Det. Ken Mifflin has been relentless in his accumulation and categorizing of evidence in these cases."

The fire department determined an accelerant was used in the 2009 fire.
Scott was also involved in a separate incident in March 2010. Police said he set fire to a duplex in Stow at 2101 and 2105 Berger Ave. The victims were asleep, but safely go out of their homes. There was about $36,000 in damages.

Scott David Purk was charged with four counts of aggravated arson (first-degree felony), two counts of attempted aggravated murder (first-degree felony) and one count of insurance fraud (third-degree felony).
Tammy Purk was charged with two counts of aggravated arson and one count of insurance fraud.
The couple is in Summit County Jail waiting their arraignments today at the .
