Traffic Pattern at High School Changes Back to Original Direction Monday

The district decided to change the traffic pattern back to the original way after talking to the police department and getting feedback from parents and students.

Didn't think the new traffic pattern at the high school was a good idea? Neither does the district now.

The and district examined how the new pattern worked since Aug. 18 and decided it doesn't help alleviate traffic build up in the area.

Traffic at will revert back to the original direction that everyone was used to beginning Monday morning (Aug. 29).

“Every attempt to ensure student safety and to alleviate buildup on Graham Road will continue to be our central focus. We appreciate our students' and parents' continued patience as we work to create the safest and most efficient process as possible," said Assistant Principal Chris DiMauro.

Parents, students and staff will resume entrance to the parking lot at the east drive closest to the building, while exiting the west drive nearest the tennis courts. Signage will reflect the current traffic pattern, and police officers will be on site to assist with arrival and departure, according to a press release.

Residents' thoughts on the new traffic pattern:

  • Kevin Heather Galiato: "Yesterday after school, hundreds of students were crossing through two lines of traffic to get to their vehicles. I am an experienced driver and it was nerve racking for me. I can't imagine the 16- and 17-year-old new drivers who are trying to navigate all those children."
  • Lisa Gopp: "My son is driving to school ... and he said even arriving before 7 a.m., he waited on Graham Road for 10 minutes to get into the driveway. I hear it's very hard to try and turn right out of the school having to cross so much traffic."
  • Pam Appledorn Dangel: "My daughter must arrive 50 minutes early and stay an extra 30 minutes (at least) in order to avoid traffic issues and additional time off work not to mention all the gas burned up waiting and running back and forth. Bring back the bus!!"
  • Laura Shanklin Pribula: "When I first heard- I thought,  'I do believe they might have made the situation worse but I was hoping the 'experts' knew more than me ...'"
  • Laura Zuern-Coon: "It was nightmare! Totally unsafe for the kids crossing in front of the cars."

What do you think? Is the original traffic pattern the better option?
