City Engineer Retires After 31 Years with Stow

Bill Drew sat in on his final council meeting Sept. 22, when Mayor Karen Fritschel announced he will retire Sept. 31.

After 31 years of punching a time card for Stow, City Engineer Bill Drew announced he will retire at the end of September.

"I've enjoyed working for the city of Stow the last 31 years. I feel blessed that I got to work and raise a family in the city I grew up in," he said.

Assistant Engineer Jim McCleary will serve as acting engineer when Drew leaves. The mayor said the job is an appointed one, and Fritschel wanted to leave that decision up to the next elected mayor.

"I have a very knowledgeable and dedicated staff that will carry on when I leave," said Drew.

"He's helped us out with so many projects in Stow — we owe Bill a great debt of gratitude," said Fritschel. "We will miss him."
