Rezoning, Fox Den Lease, PD Gets Grant: Feb. 23 Council Meeting Preview

Take a look at five things to know before tonight's council meeting.

The Stow City Council meeting scheduled for Feb. 23 begins at 7 p.m. at .

Here are five things to take note of before the meeting:

1. Residential Rezoning: Stow resident Paul Zuravel is requesting that a section of eight plots at Graham Road and Leewood Road be rezoned from R-1 to R-2. About half a dozen residents attended the Feb. 21 meeting opposing Zuravel's request. Most residents cited more traffic, property values and smaller property lot sizes to why they were against rezoning. Zuravel said he wants to rezone the lot so he has more options for the property. Stow Patch will have more on this story, continue to check for updates.

2. Lease Agreement: Council will review leasing property at 2862 Call Rd. for three years from George Hanson for Fox Den's driving range.

3. Police Department Receives Grant: Council is expected to approve accepting an $8,000 (10 percent matching) 2011 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Law Enforcement Program to purchase two Panasonic mobile data terminals (Toughbooks). "We're always looking for grants to purchase equipment," said Chief Louis Dirker.

4. Emerald Ash Borer: The bug infestation happening in Stow will not be discussed during Thursday's meeting, but Arborist Sue Mottl did make a presentation during Tuesday's meeting. She is proposing that some of the Ash trees in Stow be cut down and treated with insecticides. Stow Patch will have a more detailed story soon. Also, Mottl agreed to team up with Patch next week to put a video together to show residents how to identify Ash trees and how to know if the tree is infested with Emerald Ash Borer.

5. Executive Session: Council is expected to meet in exective session Thursday evening for these three purposes:

  • Contract negotiations
  • Land acquisition
  • Pending litigation
