Softball Team Crushes Ball, Starts Season 2-0

The Lady Bulldog softball team won both of its games on Saturday.

The softball team hosted a triangular event with the Norton and St. Vincent St. Mary’s Saturday.  

In the first varsity game, Stow prevailed over Norton with a 3 – 2 victory. Each team score a single run in the first inning and the game stayed tied until the top of the fourth inning when Norton scored their only other run of the game on a solo home run over the left field fence to take a 2 – 1 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning the Lady Bulldogs evened the score at 2 – 2. With the game still tied at 2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, led off with a walk followed by a Sarah Parson single to put two runners on base. With one out, Stephanie Little singled to right center for the game winning RBI, scoring Rooney from second base.

Annette Fetter recorded the win for Stow while allowing only two hits and getting four strikeouts. Little was 2-for-4 at bat, both singles, and had 2 RBIs. Rooney had 2 hits, a single and a triple; Parsons had 2 singles; and Alex Shaver had two hits; a single and a double in the Stow win.

Stow was again successful in their second game of the day, defeating St. Vincent St. Mary’s 8 – 0. Stow scored single runs in both the second and third innings and then broke the game open, scoring three runs each in the fourth and fifth innings. It was a 15-hit attack for the Lady Bulldogs with eight players recording at least one hit. Rooney earned her first win of the season pitching for Stow as she allowed only two hits in the seven inning shutout while recording nine strikeouts.

Leading the hitting attack for Stow was freshman Danielle Tiller, who was 3-for-3, including 2 singles and a triple, scored 1 run and had 4 RBIs. Sarah Parsons had 3 hits, 2 singles and a triple, and scored 2 runs. Alisha Habyan had 2 singles, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs and Lindsay Jones had 2 hits, a single and a double and scored 2 runs.
