Ready to Relay for Life All Day Saturday? $38,000 Already Raised
The annual event begins Saturday and the chief of police is the ambassador this year.
The 24-hour annual Relay for Life of Stow-Munroe Falls kicks off at 10 a.m. June 2 at the .
This year, Police Chief Louis Dirker, who has non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, will serve as ambassador at the event to represent cancer survivors. Dirker was diagnosed in 2009 and is still undergoing treatment.
Last year, the event raised $70,000 and more than 375 people participated.

As of May 31, there are 38 teams signed up, 383 participants and more than $38,000 already raised.

Twenty-nine year cancer survivor Norene Jones of Stow, who is the relay co-chair, she was thrilled with the success of the 2011 event — not just in terms of dollars raised, but also because cancer awareness received a huge boost in the community.
Teams signed up for the Stow-Munroe Falls Relay for Life event will play games, run on-site fundraisers, enjoy live entertainment, camp out, laugh and sometimes cry.
Schedule of Events:
- 10 a.m. June 2 — Opening Ceremony
- 8:45 p.m. June 2 — Survivor/Caregiver Ceremony
- 9 p.m. June 2— Luminaria Ceremony
- 3:50 a.m. June 3 — Fight Back Ceremony
- 9 a.m. June 3 — Closing Ceremony
